I'm talking about Facebooks local "for sale" or "garage sale" groups / pages.

OK I understand this a little but it's also pretty stupid as you can loose a potential buyer with the time frame thing that they make a rule on these groups... Example...

Rule #1 & like the only rule (I think)..... "This is NOT a First Come First Serve (FCFS) site - if you post an item you must follow the rules of the site. Any interest in the item, including a question, is first in line and that person has 12 hours to respond if they want the item."

Seriously not first come first serve? This "rule" includes someone just simply saying "interested" or making a super low ball offer & then someone right after him making a FULL price offer. The one who low balled you now has 12 hours to offer the same as the full price offer or you could always accept his low offer but we all know that ain't happening. The clown who simply said "interested" also now has 12 hours to keep the item in limbo if they so choose. To me a full price offer is that person saying sold, Ill take it! Not someone wanting to haggle over it or think about it when BTW it's already a good deal to begin with!

What do you guys think? I say the first full price offer should have dibbs! This "rule" they have promotes low ball offers or interest from people who might not be interested at all but but wanna think about it for 12 hours or who don't want others to get it for some reason. This country is all about first come serve is it not? Anyway I don't like this rule as you can tell, I just wonder what your thoughts on it are?

I use these sites all the time and I agree, there are way to many stupid rules on them. I tend to stay away from the GS because of the first come first serve rules. I've seen alot of drama unfold on a item because of it. The auctions sites I use mostly are horrible with rules. One has 7 pages of them, all the way from NIL rules to the amount you can bid at a time, to time stamp rules. With the ending time stamps it needs to be the minute before the posted time I think. With the bidding amount it has helped with family running a item up, but you still get those people that jump on bid the Mac then never bid again. Example three days ago I bid on a pair of gun lighters, the guy before me bid 5.00 up from 1.05. I bid 5.01 and the guy hasn't bid since. Another a pair of gunstocks, the bid was at 3.58 the next bid ran it to 20.00 bucks then never came back. That what makes me mad, if your wanting it that bad, come back and at least bid a penny at a time to try and win. But yes way way to many rules. How hard is it to run place a item, people enter bids, then you pick it up.

I haven't used any FB yet, but probably won't, even though I am told that I should.

The thing that has turned me off from facebook listings is that I had a friend from college who posted about 4 items a day. It got very old looking at his overpriced junk.

In this example, I think it would have been fine to make some occasional posts, but 4 or 5 a day...for ugly furniture that was way over priced and out of style on both his regular FB and on two garage sale pages?

That earned him an "unfriend this person", LOL.

You could have just blocked his posts & you wouldn't see them unless you wanted to by unblocked them/him later. You didn't have to unfriend him..lol. Most of my friends are doing well selling on these sites. I'm finding it's easy to sell reasonably priced good stuff on there. I mean $10-$20 & under things that are well worth that do well that's for sure.

I have never used these FB "garage sales" but what I am reading here makes them sound very unattractive. I sell a lot of stuff on Craigslist and I don't see what advantage there would be in using a FB sale instead of a CL listing. CL doesn't have these sorts of rules.

I'm with Duffy. There game, there rules. Maybe they don't want it to be like eBay or CL. They definitely have rules like that for a reason. I don't use them and I don't know what the rules are intended to accomplish but it seems to be working for them very well. If I had to guess, I would say they are intended to slow things down, personalize a little and help prevent scams. Lots of other sights to utilize.

One of the groups I just joined is a first come first serve thing! Wow there are like 10 or more of these local groups. I just want to sell in the ones with the most members!

I might start my own local one!

They arent bad. I dont sell on them at all because its very restrictive. The GS ones are to over priced, but i love the auction sites.

Yeah, I could have, but why not just get it over once and for all?

LOL.

It got real old, real fast. He never posted anything at all, except for his attempts at selling. Sure, I'm cool with someone trying to hawk decent stuff for a few bucks...but this guy was outlandish. He posted a guitar with a cracked top for $950 that can be bought on ebay for $500. Two particle board end tables from 1979 for $80. A hall mirror that was made in China, only $89.

I think the cute and folksy descriptions set me over the edge. "A collection of beautiful and quaint plush animals, in comical and brilliant construction, a sure winner in any home, for play or the serious collector, a group of 10 Beanie Babies in good but pre-loved condition, only $65. Price is firm, and only available at our home shop. Reservations for these cute play things will be honored for those making instantaneous Paypal payments."

I almost emailed him to suggest he get a flea market booth, but it was easier to unfriend him. LOL.
