The Green Berets was/is a good movie, Of course I don't watch it anymore due to that fact when I went to SFAS, (Special Forces Assement Selection), guess what movie they showed every night? You got it! "The Green Berets"! Still it is a good movie, but I don't watch it anymore. I think I still have the actors scripts pretty much still memorized!

To those who've been "over the horizon" it's more of a training film than a movie... if follows doctrine more than most do.

it IS a classic.

seen the movie (Green Berets) while serving in Vet Nam.I was a ranger serving with a troop of aussie soldiers. it made us laugh.for we thought that dumb a-- movie :sorry but that way I saw it back in 68. don't want to step on any ones toes.I like a lot of John Wayne movies nuff said Buck

We Were Soldiers

Deer Hunter

Heaven Knows Mr Allison lol 'cuz i'm an old girl

hahaha...i suppose African Queen would be a stretch :)

Oh, let me think now because there are so many. In no particular order:

Band of Brothers
Kelly's Heroes
To Hell and Back
The Longest Day
Battle of Britain
Patton
Great Escape
Memphis Belle
Tora Tora Tora
Midway
and a lot of others that I can't think of right now.

And although this movie is more about military life than war, I always thought The Great Santini was a good movie.

Patton, Green Berets, Memphis Belle, Full Metal Jacket, Sands of Iwo Jima, Bataan,

Saving Private Ryan was the best I've seen. The landing at Normandy was so real I nearly held my breath through the whole 6 minutes or so! Monty

I think Inglorious Basterds just jumped to the front on my list of war movies.

I almost forgot, "The Wind and the Lion". Sean Connery was the Wind and Brian Keith was the Lion. It was about an Arab Sheik and Theodore Roosevelt. Candice Bergan was a wealthy lady who along with her two children was kidnapped by Sean Connery. It involves the fight between the U. S. Marines and a gang of Nazis who are trying to take over the country. Sean Connery admires Roosevelt and in the end they joins forces. It was one of those movies that you never hear about but it was great! Monty

My list..

1) Apocalyps Now
2) Band of Brothers
3) Enemy at the Gates <---- I'm a Mosin fan!
4) Saving Private Ryan
5) Platoon
6) Rambo <---- not really during a war..the acting was bad.. the plot was too "chuck norris like".. the "kill" scenes were awesome.
7) Full Metal Jacket

HH
ZoSo

Zulu
Ulzana's Raid
We Were Soldiers
Glory
The Horse Soldiers
Fort Apache

the boys of company c and the book by donald duncan charlie company he was a greenberet in viet nam it was basicly his memories while he was there

"The One That Got Away", a 1957 British film about a WW2 German pilot who
escaped from two British POW camps in 1940-41, then successfully from
a train taking him to a camp in Canada.

He made it to the US, then back to Germany.

It was based on a 1956 book with the same title.

:)

This pilot was Franz von Werra. Missing since 1941.

My favorites are Downfall, Band of Brothers, Gettysburg, Finnish war movie Winter war, the Pianist and Saving private Ryan.

I loved many of the classic movies previously mentioned, and would like to add a few more.
The Thin Red Line
Enemy at the Gate
The Greatest Raid
Wind Talkers

There are surely a ton of other gems out there, that were not mentioned.
