Favorite songs I was raised on

I went and saw Lynyrd Skynyrd in Mississippi about six months ago it was their last and final
show on the final tour so I knew I had a buy that T-shirt. And then they went on tour again LOL

LOL that’s a good gimmick.

Well, I have not heard this Allman Brothers song before. It sure does hit home though.

It kind of pissed me off

Well, sir, I think you need a hat to go with that shirt. :laughing9:

When I was a young boy this was playing on my record player most of the time until this day I have this picture on my wall. I bought everything I had of kiss that I bought from the Kiss Army It was my first big purchase I gave my mother on my birthday money and she wrote a check and then those days you mailed it in so every day for the next for months I was waiting for the mailman. The day it came in you were on top of the World59842146464__56A38991-DB20-4824-A14F-91AC74B146D8.jpg59842171386__9AA98312-3EC2-4FE8-B306-D62A825E5D41.jpg

Ah a KISS fan! I was wondering when we were going to hear about KISS. They started when I was about 10 years old. Their first gig was in front of 10 people and they were paid a whopping $50.00. I cannot say I am as big a fan as you, but I do know the memorabilia is quite collectible. We still like to head bang to this , especially on long road trips. It helps to wake up the driver. LOL

When I was a boy my father played guitar and the family sat around and sang. Pretty much traditional folk songs, this one was probably my favorite. I am 73 now, dad long gone, but I have a family of foxes living behind my house who I feed sometimes and whenever they come around this song still goes through my head. May be a little too real rural country for some.

I don’t listen to KISS anymore Because you find out when you get older that their singing Is it really up to par but I could say they put on a hell of a show that’s why I put Ace Frehley’s song it was one I could listen to now. but a lot of that sucked but as a kid with a Gene Simmons birthday cake I have a lot of memories of kiss it since I collect what I had when I was younger yes was a big part of it,

Thanks for posting gunsil. I think I remember you posting pics of foxes.
I loved Burl Ives when I was a kid. I can remember having so much fun in music class singing this one.

But, they were favorites we were raised on. You know, I listen to all of these songs and they take me back to that time. That was my motivation for the thread. I always wondered how hot they must have been in those costumes? Did the make up run? Boy what a mess! And I never did like Gene Simmons tongue. Gross! But I did like their some of their songs, the hits anyway. They were successful (despite the “singing “)

“Kiss is one of the best-selling bands of all time, having sold more than 75 million records worldwide, including 21[5] million RIAA-certified albums.[6][7] Kiss also holds the title as America's No. 1 Gold record award-winning group of all time, having earned 30 Gold albums. Kiss has 14 Platinum albums, with three albums being multi-Platinum.[8] On April 10, 2014, the four original members of Kiss were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Kiss was ranked by MTV as the ninth "Greatest Metal Band of All Time",[9] and placed tenth on VH1's "100 Greatest Artists of Hard Rock" list,[10] as well as being ranked as the third "Best Metal and Hard Rock Live Band of All Time" by Loudwire.[11]”

I listen to KLOVE mostly, and this thread and what we all post. The contemporary Christian music is not very popular on this site. Kinda crosses the line also. But it is the music that I love loud.

1956. The Yellow Rose of Texas.

Well, hello, Honest Samuel. I have not talked to you in a while. Thanks for joining in. Now, I’m not for sure, but I think this one is the 1956 version you would be referring to:

Here’s one. Speedy Gonzales was one of my favorite cartoon characters, so I liked the song, even if I didn’t comprehend it at the time.

Yup, we used to sing that one too. Don, Web footed friends was another my dad learned and played. WannaDig, you're correct about my fox photos, I have three young of the year hanging out these days but my camera broke (when I dropped it) so I haven't taken any pics of them. Burl Ives lived for some years in my county and he would act as auctioneer at an annual charity auction, and sometimes play and sing at small local venues. I was lucky to have seen him auction many times (he was funny like crazy) and only got to see him live when I was about 12 or 13. Funny reading other posts where the younger folks grew up with hard rock, while when I was young there was not yet rock and roll. Jazz, blues, country western, classical, and folk, and many more people had family sings usually either blues or folk. We carolled the neighborhood every Christmas time as a family and with another family or two, it was such a fun thing to do. Nowadays this area has blown up with development, neighbors don't know or socialize with one another, and I haven't carolled or heard any carollers for close to fifty years. Don't get me wrong, I grew up at the same time rock did and by high school it was full grown and I have enjoyed many fine rock acts. I still like my singer/songwriter music and folk, it what I was exposed to very early on.
