Good day all. I have posted that I am detecting on a farm with a log home built in 1750s that also saw a Civil War skirmish between 3 companies of Union in the yard and fields against a Confederate rear gaurd.

I found a few period items that are easily identifiable and a few that required me to seek higher counsel, if you will. (I do hold members here in high regard).

It appears to be a button or fastener of some sort. Though the back has me tripped up. It does not have a loop. It is about .687 or 11/16ths in diameter. And the back has a base.

What might this be?

Could be an overalls button. The part the straps go over, it would have been in the material the back is like a nail that fastens the two pieces together. It is a two piece fastener. I just repaired mine with a new button about a week ago.I think the large side is the front and the small side the back if it does turn out to be that.

Ahh, yeah I can see that. Makes perfect sense. Thank you!

I’m going to throw in my 2 cents. It looks like a rivet. Especially the last one. The stamp being all bent like that looks like it could have caused by two pieces of sheet metal shearing along each other which popped the piece out

Yeah, Madmox. That seems more plausible. A flat rivet, perhaps used on a chair back. Interesting. Thanks for your .02
