Completely different day & it almost could have been a different field, shows what a difference a few hundred metres makes! Spent 5 hours (10 man hours), digging lots of lead & a fair few buttons but very little else.
I saved the day with a lovely Halfpenny of Richard II 1377-99

We had our first large scrappy from this field, funny as it boarders a Roman road.

Loverly hammered :headbang:

Re: Farm Shop Field - Day 2........

So, what do you do with the coins which are more recent. I notice you and Shaun and a few of the others in England get those old coins of 'recent' vintage (18th and 19the cent. +) but they seem to be worn. Do you make any efforts to clean them or do they sit in a box waiting and accumulating?

I will always get a kick out of the fact you gents get those 6-, 7-, 800+ yr old coins. To see them in generally pristine condition is even more amazing.

The blank or worn Georgian coppers get recycled, sold as scrap. The rest sit in various boxes. No I never bother cleaning them, most of them are past it anyways.

Yes to get a very thin hammered silver coin from a ploughed field in this condition is indeed a small miracle.

Neat Hammered Cru! Also see quite a few bag seals, and yes, it is funny that you don't find more roman coins there....

That was something I have been meaning to ask. Also, have you ever considered selling the ones that you have extras of? I bet you could make quite a bit selling them.

That hammered is just fantastic! I like the buckle bits too. Congrats on a successful day.

Re: Farm Shop Field - Day 2........

Good to see you have scrounged up some land to detect and making some finds, hard to get on the fields now. HH, Mike
