I can't stand it anymore. I finally have to ask you: What is a Roman scrappie? Is it a Roman coin that hasn't much value because it's very common, or in bad condition?

Do you find many of these (see below)? I bought one as a souvenir for a pound in London in 1998, from a guy who had a bucketful.

thats not a scrappy!

No this is not a scrappie (I think). I don't know either what a scrappie is, my guess would be a Roman coin where nothing much is left to see, or in such a bad condition you cannot determine who the guy/girl is. But where the name was attached to such a coin I could not imagine... (I think Cru will tell us)..

A pound? Wow! I have a box of Roman coins in that condition that you could have 2 for a pound.....

Awesome old stuff!! You guys have it so good over there! I can't find a silver quarter anywhere in the state of florida! :-[ You are digging up Roman coins! Awesome-fantastic! Keep makin us drool with more posts! :P

Most UK detectorist call them Grots, but I nicknamed them scrappies. They are Roman Bronze Coins which have little or no detail. The one you have I would call an Album coin, very nice.

I am impressed every time I see one of Crusader's posts. It has to be a thrill every time you turn the soil for one more bit of history. And it's equally impressive the knowledge you have about the items. Probably helps that you're able to turn items often, and can recognize them fairly quickly. Where I live I'd be hard pressed to come up with anythng over a couple hundred years old! Love that history! And thank you for sharing!

Firstly welcome to Tnet & thanks for the comments.

Saidly you do become somewhat jaded & expectations increase. The first few scrappies or hammered took years to find as a kid & now if we don't get 10 its a bad day. Seeing things though your eyes (& others) have reinforced how lucky I am.

Keep watching as in Sep. things are going to get 10 times better. We found some great sites last year, which are going to produce some very nice pieces. I can't wait, the XP is making me the most confident I have ever been.
