So this coin is about the same size as a quarter but totally flat and no markings (it seems). I think I have found one before that was even thinner.
Is this in fact a quarter? I've dug some other quarters that were very badly pitted but didn't seem to be on the course of becoming flat and smooth like this coin. Is there any other coin it could be? Thanks

It could be a quarter. The green patina is most likely copper which would be a clad. Check with a magnet for the off chance it may be steel. Probably not but cleaning it is the only way to know. It looks flat because of the "rot". I find many coins in this condition.

Does look like an old coin or token and by the looks of it you'll never know for sure.

Seems like quality metal like a coin. Same size as quarter...slight green where there might have been the ridges along the sides.

Cleaning it is your only chance of knowing. I have found pennies and a V's that look just like that. Sadly the damage is already done so cleaning is not going to hurt it any further. Copper turns green.

Depends on how aggressive you want to be. Vinegar and salt is very aggressive. Try dipping a lightly tarnished penny in it and see! It will also remove the plating off of new coins leaving a copper quarter! Maybe a 1/2 hour at a time with a toothbrush in between. This will clean it but will also dissolve metal (except gold) if left to long. Also works on steal. What I am doing now is something I learned here, a rock tumbler. I'm very pleased with the results as it makes clad more "spendable"! Be advised that nether of these are recommended for valuables but any coin in that condition is already damaged. Even after cleaning it may look like the surface of the moon! But... You still may be able to at least tell what it is! Let me know what you find! The "flat and smooth" is a result of the deterioration, just like rusted items "expand"..
