Extremely interesting 14k find!! But what is it??

I'm trying like heck to figure out what this could be? It kinda looks like a coin but its really small! It's solid 14 k gold and has some writing on it that I can not make out! Pls take a look! I don't even have a guess for this one! Found it yesterday hunting on a old historical esker in mass!

I'm not sure how you tested it but I am almost positive based on your pictures that it is plated. You have to file into the piece to test it. If you put 14k acid just on the surface it will still test gold. Good luck.

well Kathy....I believe you about the test...I also have doubts.

if it is not a battery that overheated and melted the gold upon itself...

then perhaps it is a coin like object set in a ring to wear about ones neck?
are there remains of a ring mount on the outer edge of the object?
