It plainly says: "Notify BIRMINGHAM ALABAMA PD Property Clerk Division".

Hmmmm..........Call me crazy but perhaps that's what you are supposed to do :tongue3:
Remember it only says "notify"......nothing about "return" or "turn in"

One thing for sure: You take it anywhere and they are going to take it without compensation. Keep it for a collection or spend it now. You have a better chance.
I would have to agree. Do the right thing and notify the authorities and you are sure to lose it. You may even be treated as a criminal.

Its already on the internet for anyone searching and you may be contacted. I would sell it on eBay at a 7 day auction now and be done with it. But if you want to do the right thing, notify Birminghamn and be prepared to lose it without even a thank you.. Keep in mind, this bill is clearly stamped evidence and is no longer legal tender. It is the property of Birmingham Clerks Office. You will not be compensated for something that is not yours and never was. Its stolen property.

No telling what price could be realized on eBay. I cannot even fathom a guess.

But then again selling stolen property may not be a good idea either. :-\

To keep from doing jail time or worse...........
I think he should just send it to me for disposal ;D

Somebody in the Clerk's office could have been bored and stamped it for the fun of it. Better to be on the safe side and throw it into the washing machine and launder it.... :D

I think its real unless someone is playing a joke on the Birminghams Clerk Office.. A disgruntled ex employee? Its a shame the case number is not on it. There is a story here but we may never know what it is or how this bill entered circulation.

Call them "for a friend" just to notify only and see what they want to do next. Who knows may be a reward in it for you :dontknow:

I agree with GG.
When you call "for a friend," be sure to do it from a pay phone. In a neighboring town.

If it has been properly "released" back into the wild, I'd get something in writing and slap that puppy on eBay!

Best,
Scott

FYI not all evidence marked money is counterfeit, the money could be from any crime at all, from drug money to murder etc, you just don't know.

The big question is, did this one slipped through the cracks? Or is this a case of someone taking money from the evidence locker and spending it? Or something else, seeing that the case number isn't marked on the bill in the spot provided, along with the other block that I can't read (EMP.....)?

Yes! connected with an crime or similar .. but not false.

Money that was seized as evidence is routinely recirculated into the economy. This bill could have been one of many that was initially located or turned in by a concerned citizen as "found property" which was subsequently returned to the owner after he/she proved to the authorities that it was theirs.

It could have been monies seized during a drug crime, robbery, or a theft of some sort and then returned to the defendant due to lack of evidence to prosecute the case or returned to the victim. If the authorities contacted the Federal reserve every time that they had a bill which needed to be destroyed, they would be inundated with requests and the Federal Government would have to hire someone to take care of these.

My best advice, keep it for a souvenir or take it to a bank for exchange and they will take it out of circulation and send it to the Federal Reserve for destruction.

Kinda cool!
