Hope tis helps. I asked a few questions in return.
Question: 1. Do you use Google Earth, Microsoft Live Earth, TerraServer, or some other mapping program?
Answer: No. I do use Live Maps.com however to examine areas of land I am interested in.
Question 2. Do you know what the county register of deeds can do for you when researching?
I have been to the courthouses in three neighboring counties, plus the county I live in--to look for deeds.
ANswer: No. Never went that deep into the hobby.
How is this helpful to you? Can you give a good example? How OFTEN is this helpful?
Question 3. Have you ever sent out letter-head letters to landowners asking for permission to hunt?
ANswer: No sir. Seems like alot of extra work when I can just have a face to face conversation. Has sending letters helped you much?
4. Do you carry the metal detecting Code of Ethics with you when you go hunting?
Answer: Never thought to do so. I suppose it would help in a face to face encounter asking permission to MD.
5. Would you be interested in a book if it showcased step-by-step how to find great spots for metal detecting?
Answer: No sir. Absolutely not. Not because it wouldn't be a good reference book, but because we already have lots of people out there with their metal detectors. Too much compition now. AND how many of those people follow the rules of ethics? Just look at the damage many MDers cause now. Why
would you want to expose brand new hunting sites to the mentally challenged!!!!!! Fortunately some of these people get discouraged and fade away or are to lazy to do it the right way. But there are STILL to many people out there and only a small percent ( just my opinion ) doing it correctly anyway. PLEASE no book! The really SERIOUS individual will develope his/her own methodology anyway. WHat works for you?
Regards
