Honestly, you don't have to go back that far to find some tough men. Those men back then must have been tougher than rock. To leave home and family, sail all the way across the ocean, not knowing if you were ever going to return. The odds were not in their favor. mm

Like the intro says Ever See Any Thing That Looks Like This? See the Cute Little Face in circle? Mother Nature's Odd sense of humor?
The Circle is about 3" in Diameter. Folks I only post what I find, I do not make this stuff up, trust me!
I'm having a hard time wrapping my mind around how that round piece fell back into solid rock? Hollow? it would almost have to be?
I would hate to think it might be the start button for Armageddon. mm

On first glance I see two turtles ... small one, and large one. Smaller one's tail or flipper is on the head of the larger one - but the larger one may be a snake.

I also see a big white fish with either 6E or CE on its side. It's heading towards the circle.

I look at the two out of place pieces, and it makes me think of one reaching into a pool of water to retrieve something. The circle itself is interesting ... I see three faces: One left (silhouette), one right (silhouette), and another that appears to be looking towards the camera (it's on the inside of the circle) but it's actually a skull. So to me it appears the hands are reaching in to grab the skull from a pool of water.

MM- I will take pictures on the trail and put them on my computer. Then my husband and daughter will also look at them, and they will both see things I did not see. My daughter, who is 12, always sees more than her dad or I do. Her help in seeing is invaluable to me. There is probably something about her youth and not having mental restrictions like us adults do.

Out in the field we come across writings (letters, numbers), pictures, shapes, what have you. Most, if not all (in my case) are at least 100 years old or more.
I do not want to harm these artifacts in any way. Because I have a tough time seeing some of this stuff, and I am color deficient on top of that. Yea I know I should try another hobby like base ball cards...But not me...So... I Have a couple of questions. 1. Has anyone experimented using different colored glasses or UV to look at writings on rocks? Do any of these work? 2. Are there other noninvasive tricks that can be used to make the faint carvings, pictures show up? Thank you. mm

Do you have a picture editing program for your computer, like Paint.net? Paint.net is free, and you can make changes to a picture like lightening, darkening, enhancing certain colors and inverting colors to make things "pop" more.

I have one site that cross lighting was helpful, if you have the time to wait, the sun to do the job for you, there's lots of places to buy an unbreakable mirror that will fit in a fanny pack along with your compass, voice recorder , 10 ft tape, water bottle Telephone, energy bar's and so forth, small spray bottle of white vinegar'

A word that I haven't heard used here when it comes to photographs is "stitching". You can take a series of photographs and then (using that old technique) "stitch" them together into one usable photograph. In fact, my old Fuji S1800 camera came with a "Panorama" setting where I could take 3 pictures in a horizontal row from either right to left or left to right. The viewfinder made it easy to line up your shots so you came up with one wide photo that has as much information as three pics.

If you want to see how it works, take 4 pictures where each one slightly overlaps the others. Take them all with the same focal length lens (and if you have a "zoom lens" then either all the way zoomed out or all the way zoomed in) and from the same distance at the same angle.

If I get some time this evening I'll see if I can post an example.

I use my iPhone for that it has a panorama feature, works great as long as the pic is not too large of an area otherwise it starts getting a fish eye effect

Try holding it and walking with it rather than panning it. Do that with my android tablet ... of course, an I-ncompatiblePhone may not be able to do it that way.

Some really good ideas folks! Lets keep it up.
I have not used the print programs available out there so that would be new for me. I have used the panoramic setting on some of the cameras we have had in the past. I think my current camera has a mode for something like that. I'll have to look. I'm planning on trying the UV light because I have one. It is a small hand held one. All of these signs and symbols are getting older and more worn, thus harder to see or make out. I have some markings on a flat rock. I can tell there are symbols there, but just can't make all of them out. I had heard you can use shaving cream or white flour to make things more visible. But I certainly would not want to use anything like that on the Bluffs and Overhangs. Some look like they have been painted on.
I would like to find a simple aid that would not break the bank. Something anyone can lay their hands on. Keep up the comments they are Great! Thanks. mm

What I See




What I see in this picture is the subject in the circle is a Cat. The Cat is looking up at what looks like 4 57 written on the rock face to "our" upper left. There is a fish with a "Big Mouth" almost rectangle ish. With 6 E on it's side. Below the Fish is a Alligator or a Mud Dog Fish laying in the rubble you can see it's eye. To the left of the fish, but to the right of the circle, I see a Duck with scales instead of feathers. The head does not look like a snake to me. The Duck has an eye that is looking into the camera. To the left and up some what of the circle are 3-4 Faces. I don't know if they are suppose to be there or if my mind is trying to make sense out of the colors and tones in that area? At one time I thought one of the faces was a mouse and the cat was looking at them, her or him.
Once again this brings up more questions!
But first let me let me say I think Chadeaux is correct. I think the creator of this display is trying to convey the subject in the circle is looking into a pool of water. Thank you Chadeaux! I use the term pool because I do not know what body of water the artist is showing us. Be it a pond, river, water laying in a mine shaft? I believe the fish and alligator are to show it is water.
Back to the questions.
First on my mind is what do the numbers mean?
Second why the water thyme?
Why is this symbol in the location it is in?
Is this circle symbol a seal to a hidden chamber or small compartment?
Why did I not see what other people saw?

I'm still interested in hearing what you guys see.

In closing I have to say the Artist of the symbols and signs on the sites that I have been on is a Master of his craft. I think he needs to be acknowledge for that. I am sorry I can not show you some of his other works at this time, but after a hundred or so years out in the weather I am still impressed.

After studying the picture some more, I noticed that I was wrong about the Duck's eye, it is looking straight out at the camera. there appears to be more images to the left of the duck. I'm still looking for the turtles. mm

To be honest I'm not sure, There are two or three signal trees, I do not have the other two posted. The one you have here is for a different site. I'm fairly sure what it is pointing to. The other two I have yet to follow out. I do wish you would follow through with your thoughts though. I will say this if it helps, one of the other trees has more vertical limbs on it than the one pictured. Also yes there are numbers and letters in a lot of different locations around this site. I can not get a fix if they are compass readings or Bible verses? Thank you. mm
