Ever regret it?

I give some things away sometimes. I used to find a lot of pottery disc and gave most away. Now I’m lucky if I find one a year. There’s been others in the past like soapstone that I don’t find anymore.

1. Yes, before I knew about PREFORMED tools, I found a 9" preformed celt. What did I do? Left it in the creek. Then later washed away by a massive rain .

2. On a very hot day, I found a nice piece of caramel brown flint, turned it over and the entire outline of a point stood above the flat edge. Kept it in my hand as I had no pockets that day. Found a point shortly after and not thinking, threw the first find over my shoulder into a bog. ugg

3. Same thing, had no pockets, found an 8" gorgeous pestle. Perfect cigar shape, dark brown with black speckles. So I placed it on a boulder. Forgot it, then next day went back and the area had been flattened by a dozer.

Now I wear clothes with Pockets!

Before I knew what hammerstones were I would pick them up (because they weren't rocks that looked like the points I would find) and throw them in the woods or in the Chattahoochee river. I also did that with flakes of all sizes without looking to see if they had any type of edgework.

I found a preform chipped ax in the woods next to the field where someone had thrown it.

It wasn’t a artifact but was on a gravel bar with my Brother I picked up some petrified wood and showed him, he started to hand it back but I said something like I’ve got a bunch already. In my head I was saying you can keep it but he interpreted it as It wasn’t anything special so he turned and chucked it in the river. I like to give him crap from time to time about it… so i regret giving him a fossil near a river.

I am always setting larger items on rocks to pick up on my way back so I don't have to carry them all day. I can't tell you how many I have either not able to find again or completely forgotten until I get home. They are never there when I go back.

Last year I set something on the bend of the creek. Wasn’t sure what it was. Went to a show and saw one like it. A Roller Pestle. I’m still looking for it I can’t remember which bend I laid it on ☹️
