im not sure but i see alot of them too.

I believe those are flaking wastes. I usually just toss them away.

I would say flakes or naturals. Keep Looking. You will find them soon.

i really think they were a type of tool,or some were used as a tool

With items like these... Since none of us were there, one cant say that it 'wasnt' used. However, it is most likely that they werent. There would be retouch chips on the edges if they were true tool, like end scrapers or side scrapers etc... The archaeologists that i know call all debitage flaking artifacts, since the flakings were made by man and not natural.
I guess it might just depend on how u want to classify it. So maybe saying they are 'nothing' is harsh in a way...???

In my opinion when you classify them artifacts the hunters who post them are usually new and they then concentrate on looking for rocks rather than true artifacts.

Didn't say don't check them, but don't bring home boxes of rocks and fool your self because your imagination sees something...

We do a disservice to new hunters when we encourage them to collect geofacts/rocks as possible debitage , mother nature forms 100s of millions of rocks into shapes than man can imagine something in them, it is far better to collect artifacts shaped by man than by rocks shaped by nature.

yep,you are right about that, and i know you are very wise.just want all to know that not all artifacts are pleasant to the eye,and also happy you know im just trying to learn them as well.

Oh I agree, I have some UGLY artifacts, but they still have flaking on them or signs of man... Not all were as talented as some.....

yep,and its not only rocks i bring home.if i knew what this came from i migh001.JPG002.JPG003.JPGt call it an artifact

I'm sure it isn't, but it reminds me of a very large beaver tooth. You might post it on the Fossils board and see what they have to say. Yakker

thanks yakker, and sorry op i did not mean to jump all over your post,i will stop

ok one last word.i looked up beaver tooth, yep looks like a beaver tooth i was going to say not an artifact, but the qasgi used them as a carving tool they call it an iqukeggun.now im going to have too look and see if there is anything i can link too the ones from Alaska.this archaeology stuff is really hard.

I find the small pieces of flint that are unifaced shaped like points. I figured they were small knifes. Not many ancient people had much talent where I hunt at. I find many more unattractive artifacts than I do pretty ones. I know the books show beautiful things made by Mississippian people but I have to say the older the stone artifact is the more eye appeal there is. They made some nice pottery but the points and tools are not great in my area at all.
