5 volt 8 amp not a bit high on the amps?
g
It regulates to a max of 2.4A out of any one port and a maximum of 8A overall (sum of current out of all 4 ports or an average of 2A per port) so it is fine for the Equinox and most other 2+ Amp thirsty USB loads. Even if it could source 8A out of a single port, the USB sources will only draw as much current as they need up their own maximum (typically 2.1 to 2.4 A). The issue would be if the charger put out too much voltage. Also, Minelab doesn't recommend the inexpensive 1A chargers, not because the charge time is too long but because they usually don't regulate their current output well and if the EQX starts pulling more than 1A out, then those cheaper chargers are subject to overheating. USB ports on computers that are limited to 500 mA are OK because they are highly regulated to limit current to 500 mA. The only problem there is it will take greater than 4x the amount of time to charge the equinox vs. the quick charge 2A chargers.
