Whats so funny? The 600 is cheaper than the MX Sport, cheaper than the AT Max, cheaper than the Makro Kruzer -all of which are single frequency.

Are you saying the Equinox price point has nothing to do with its high demand?

I went back and read the entire thread, because my 600 will arrive tomorrow. Why am I excited about the Equinox? For me, it is beach hunting. I like hitting the beach. Compared to nuggetshooting, or digging plugs, it is the easiest form of metal detecting known to man, with one of the highest gold returns. I've used the Sand Shark for years in the wet sand and water, while gridding the dry sand with a Cibola; Silver; or Vaquero. I could never reconcile buying a $1,500.00 Excalibur, knowing the knobs would break and I would need a better shaft.

I am betting that the Equinox 600, is going to replace my Sand Shark, and my Vaquero. I put my money down, the bet was made, and now I am about to find out if I was right.

Why would Minelab bring out a new detector with totally different VDI than the E-trac/CTX They determine where the numbers fall. Why wouldn't they be consistent??

Just watched the park hunt video. The recovery speed was impressive. I was hyped a little when I seen it, then i watched another video titled minelab equinox 800 nail test, and was not impressed at all. Granted, it was above ground, but you would think that would make it easier to hit on the silver quarter that was in amongst the nails. I was hoping for fast recovery with etrac/ctx performance in iron as well, but to me it didn't do any better in that scenario than existing detectors. The guy gave a disclaimer at the beginning of the video, and yes he is new to the detector, so that may have played into the performance of it.

I need to watch some more videos with more scenarios before I decide. I need a water detector anyway, and like minelab, but I won't be getting rid of my etrac anytime soon.

I betcha one thing. Where I was at today, horrible mineralized red dirt, nails and pieces of Civil War ration cans in all shapes and sizes EVERYWHERE, some modest amount of modern trash - well, now settings make all the difference, but based on the Equinox videos I have seen, and the sounds/tones that this machine makes, well, best guess is on my site, red dirt, iron ore, gold in small amounts in the rocks, hot rocks everywhere, iron scrap everywhere, this machine under this specific condition won't be worth squat. It would drive you nuts bouncing from tone to tone.

I think the EQ will be good in parks, and better in salt water. But no machine will be the end all that will put the competition out of business.

In all fairness Smokey there are very few videos out right now and guessing about this machines performance is just speculation. You don't seem too convinced with the Equinox yet you're posting alot here in the equinox forum.
I think its just best to give it time. I don't really care how it ends up, I'm just glad there's some action in the detector world.

Like I said before. 'making every other machine obsolete' doesnt mean my F75 will stop working...ha ha

My guess is to make it look like the ID is more accurate they are grouping targets closer together to make up for the fast recovery.

People said I was full of crap but my Etrac was the same way in the soil we have here. I’ve never once had any issue with any other detector I’ve used around here but the Etrac hated one such field I hunted in and always had the Vaquero in the truck just in case I got sick of the false signals and chatter

I can think of different sites and scenarios I would like to try Equinox in.

No one officially has said Equinox will trump fbs series, quite the opposite actually.

Equinox is waterproof and weighs near 3 pounds.
So if a person is looking for light weight and waterproof, you have a few choices.

A waterproof detector can come in handy besides using in streams, lakes and oceans.
When hunting when weather is threatening, especially in a more remote location. Even using during drizzling rain or even snow and sleet.

We don't have a good pic of Equinox performance yet.

We will with time.

And some folks may like or find more or less beneficial to them for detecting purposes.

Equinox is the cheapest waterproof multi freq available.

I will keep an open mind when using mine. To try and see its tendencies in certain situations.

I use my Tesoros, the White's and AT I used to have and the Deus in the pouring rain. No issues. (ziploc bag) Never had a problem.

Meh, nothing I've seen in any of the videos make me agree that this machine will obsolete any other machine. I just don't get the hype, if you've ever used an XTERRA then you'd struggle to see what this machine does better than an xterra (aside from waterproof) from the videos I've seen.

Been wanting to like this thing, but it's looking like the claims are bigger than the reality of the machine?

Am I missing something here? I want to jump on the bandwagon, but just don't see what would make me want to?

Well, it IS waterproof, the X-Terra is not, It CAN run in Multi Freq's (5), the X-Terra can/does not, it can run in a single Freq. without changing coils, the X-Terra cannot. I too own a X-Terra, but I CAN see removing the battery's and using it as a wall decoration.
