Here's some of the more interesting finds I had on my last trip to England. I'll post more as I get the time. I'm hoping someone knows what the hallmarks are on the spoon. Crusader? Red Coat? It seems to be Sterling as I see no plating coming off. It's mainly just dirty. I've got it soaking right now, so, I'll post an "after" photo once it gets cleaned up. I thought the 1680 Charles II 4 pence was just a pretty coin and not a common denomination I would think. The counterfeit 1823 George IV gold sovereign had me going there for a moment out in the field, but, I soon realized that my first gold coin will have to wait a bit longer!

X that by 7/10/14 days and it starts to wear on the body.
How many trips have you done?

Yup, I'm 68 now and feeling my age more every year. Oct will be my 5th trip. Gonna keep doing it until I can't. So far, I can still do a dawn to dusk hunt, but, I have to cheat a bit by using some great pharmaceuticals. :laughing7:

I like that 1680 Four pence. I would also love to detect in England one day. It had to be a thrill just to be there and see the countryside.

All it takes is money......:laughing7:

Four Pence is new to me! Super! :icon_thumright:
I've watched all their other coinage come up, but that one....!
Celtic Gold is the goal, I hear...??

Any sort of gold coin is the big monkey on my back. Celtic would be up close to the top, as would Roman and Saxon, but, I wouldn't turn my nose up at milled English gold either!

When I started I thought it was the Celtic Gold (impossible find). After about 35 years I now know its the Roman/Saxon Gold. (actually got way more Celtic Gold than milled sovereigns etc)
PS. Still love my Celtic Gold, so I guess it depends what you like.

Nice Charles II silver. That would be a banner find in US. Dont think Ive ever seen one posted at least over here
