My year starts May 1 and ends April 30. This year I got the totals all set to go in May and got busy and forgot and never got around to posting them. I figured everyone else would be totaling up 2024 so now might be a good time to post my totals. I still have 3.5 months to detect in year 23, but there is a pile of snow on the ground with more coming and the temps have dropped into the teens so no swingin for a while.

Not my best year (total dollar value of best year was $1,447.90), but a decent year. The totals are listed below.

11,091 coins
$856.63 face value
3 pieces of diamond jewelry
140 silvers
36 golds
144 rings
33 scout slides
27 civil war bullets
7 US dollar coins
110 earring backs
1 US Indian war buckle
1 2 cent piece
3 Indian head cents
8 military buttons
1 B&O Railroad Tie Plant Meal chit
3 old hammers
1,595 camp tent pegs
21 soda game tabs

My lifetime total for coins from May 1, 2002 to April 30, 2024 is 183,748 with a total face value of $13,343.17. About enough to pay for all the equipment I bought over the years and a lot of the gas. Definitely not a get rich kind of deal, but tons of fun and verrrrrrrry interesting.

So far in year 23 I have 7,390 coins with a face value of $514.12 with 97 silvers and 20 golds. So I’m on track for an average year, but who knowns what the next few months will bring. Hopefully lots of coins with plenty of silver and gold to go with it. Maybe even that first gold coin or my first silver dollar, I am still looking for them.

Here are a few pictures of the finds from my 2023-24 year of detecting.

Some of the hunts at my favorite fresh water swimming area. Always good for some silver and gold along with a pile of regular jewelry. Some of the gold and silver is small, but it’s all fun to find.

And the Indian war buckle before and after. It didn’t clean up like I was hoping, but still not bad for a buckle buried in a gravel driveway that gets regular use. The crud was really stubborn on this one and after hours of electrolysis (15 minutes at a time) I had to use a brass brush on a drill to get the rest off. I stoped short of a full clean so I didn’t damage the buckle.

We have about 15 inches of snow on the ground and it won’t get above 30 degrees for al least 2 more weeks here at home. To the east it will get above freezing but they have a decent snow cover al well. I’m going to go into detecting withdrawal. That’s all for now, thanks for looking, stay safe, good luck and may your coil lead you to good things.
