HEY EVERYONE, SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE BAD DAYS AND MINE WAS THIS AFTERNOON. I,M LUCKY THAT ONLY GOT TO WALK 500 YARDS TO GO MDING. HAD A LITTLE RAIN LAST NIGHT. SO I THOUGHT I MIT GO FOR A WANDER DOWN THE LOCAL WATERWAY TO SEE WHAT HAD BEEN WASHED UP.SO WALKING ALONG THE CREEK BED AND SPOTTED AN OLD BOTTLE AND PROCEEDED TO DIG IT UP. SUDDENLY I HEARD NOISE BEHIND ME, AND LOOKED OVER MY SHOULDER,I COULDN,T BELIEVE THAT THERE WAS A 5 FOOT EASTERN BROWN SNAKE A FEW FEET A AWAY FROM ME. BROWN SNAKES ARE VERY VENOMOUS AND VERY AGGRESSIVE IF PROVOKED.I STAYED EVERY STILL AND PRAYED LIKE HELL UNTIL THE SNAKE MOVED ON. WHEN I BROKE THE WORLD RECORD FOR THE 100 METRE SPRINT BUT IN MY HASTY RETREAT I DROPPED MY NEW CAMERA, WHICH I ONLY GOT TODAY.I GOT THE CAMERA SO COULD POST SOME PHOTOS OF MY FINDS. SORRY FOLKS NO CAMERA , NO PHOTOS AND A BIG HOLE IN MY POCKET. DID GET THE BOTTLE WHEN WENT BACK LOOKING FOR THE CAMERA. DATES ABOUT 1840.

P.S. I HATE SNAKES TINPAN

Wow'zers... Good you didn't get bit, but I'd be grab'n a great big, I mean BIG stick, and go get my camera back from that snake... ;D I hadn't even thought about snakes while detecting until yesterday when I hit along the edge of a creek bed. I had to go through some very tall grass and I thought for sure I was going to run into one. Now, you go and post this, I'm scared to go back... ;D
Good luck, & Happy hunting~

bumping into large hollow trees filled with bees will help you to run faster and lose/break things like detectors/cameras/boots........never attempt. if you want to know how fun it is i can let you know..............gldhntr

hell knoweth no fury, then a woman scorned...

Brown snakes, grissley bears, bees and scorned women, man I thought I finally found a safe hobbie. ;D Keep them eyes and ears open at all times, thats my motto. 8)

Don't forget dogs too! I believe someone posted a story a couple days ago about 2 dogs trying to attack him while he was hunting.

Hey tinpan,
Where are you at? I've only heard of brown snakes that are venomous in Aust. Ever find any Indian artifacts near that creek bed? Glad you didn't get bit, but sorry about your camera. HH!
Andy

I love snakes especially the ones that are dead, smashed, and with their insides hanging out. That is one gooood snake. Burdie

Snake's aren't all that bad.just gotta know how to handle them, used to catch Eastern rattler's all the time...of course not without a cell phone.Just let them go on there way and you'll be alright.Sorry about the camera, maybe you can still find it.Good Luck and HH!!

Wow! Glad you got away from that one! And....soo sorry you lost your camera. Hope you can go back and find it so we can see that bottle!

Nana ;)

tinpan, Sorry about your bad luck. I am not familiar with the venomous snakes of Australia. Is that where you are? I would think that once you were 10 feet or so away, that you were out of danger. Why run for 100 meters? LOL I guess being so close to death was a frightening experience. They don't chase you, do they? I hope not. ::)
I think it could be dangerous to go back, but you have to find that camera before it rains. Just be careful every step and use a stick. Also look in the overhanging branches if they cimb trees.
Good Luck

I would have taken some pics of the snake, LOL! Too bad you lost your camera, shouldn't be too hard to find! HH, Mike

The snake with the camera will have a large belly. These can be slit open to retrive the camera. We tried to save a frog once as kids, but were too late.

thank god im not in bear country! i can only imagine! im glad the snake wasnt to riled up and didnt strike.we have two venomous snakes around here,( timber rattler, copperhead) and you rarely ever see either of them. in fact i have never seen either of them. i hope it stays that way!

Always wise to remember you're walking in their neighborhood when mding. I can relate, been bit twice over the years. I'll be ok unless I run into Sasquatch. <--- Beam me up Scottie!

Thinking about it, chances of meeting up with the same snake twice are remote. Even though, I would not want a large venemous snake so close to my home. Go back and get your camera. Kill the snake if its close to your home. Good luck.
