first thing I do is cut the Plug off
Split the Wires & Bare them.

Plug the charger in

& Dip the 2 bare wires in the Solution.

the one that Bubbles goes to the object to clean.

Beware I Had a few both wires Bubbled.

I didn't use these

Those were puting out AC not DC! LOL!

yea ? I'm not a label reader.

if it looks like a duck I Consider it a duck

If later it Meows, or Roars,
I Take for granted it wasn't a duck :dontknow:

Right. That was the point that I was trying to make. You need to read the labels. There are two different types of "wall warts" or transformers. One type takes AC in and simply converts it to a lower AC voltage out using a transformer. These will not work (or perhaps not as well). The other type is the type that chukers is using which takes AC in and converts it to a DC output voltage. That's the type that you want to use.

So you need to read the label to make sure that it says something like... Output: 18VDC

I can not stress this enough.... it does not take a lot of time to get results... just try it for a minute or two... if you don't get the results you want then put it in there for a little longer... its so easy to over do it.

trying electrolysis for the first time as we speak (sort of)
is it normal that the alligator clip bubbles furiously? its the one connected to the rusty piece

lol, i looked away for a second to check the forums, and when i looked back, the entire jar of water turned pitch black :laughing7:
might be time to change it out

Yes

However I Noticed on larger objects with a secure
connection bubbling will slow to a crawl.

Your clips will eventually disintegrate

Probably a good idea to have extra and change them
for different types of metal also.

I Personally stopped useing clips,
I Wrap the wire around the object.

Yeah it don't take long.... that stuff comes off fast... That is why I say not to leave it in long... just a few minutes to start...

of course the higher voltages the fast it will clean it but the shorter you should leave it in... I am not reall sure if you need to change out the solution... if it continues to bubble then its ok to keep using it but if you change the item you are cleaning then I'd change the solution.

im actually using a very low voltage. its only 5.2 volts, because its the only one i had on hand. it worked a little bit so far, i only did it a little last night. it was kind of weird because little flakes were coming off, but then the solution all of a sudden turned dark dark black/brown. it also has a tendency to coat everthing in the water with black dirt/soot/grime but it washes off easily

Normal  the flakes are the Dirt, Rust, etc
as is the Black Sludge.

The smaller the Object the less time
you should leave it in.
I change my solution several times on
objects that build up alot of sludge.
as everyone keeps warning, too long
& You'll start removing metal.
(Did an old lock once. Got it to open,
but the Guts Disolved,
also removed gold plating from Jewelry
& Buttons)

also on some occasions an object appeared to
stay the same only turned Back.
after removing it & Letting it dry,
the Rust & Carrosion just
crumbled off in my fingers.

also You should use a File in a
secluded place on Very Carroded objects,
to try & Bare good metal & Connect there.
it will expedite things.
Connecting the clip to non Metal areas,
of heavy dirt, & thick Cancerous Rust
will only electrolocise the clip.

Make sure you have at least a small area of Bubbles
comming off the object

Probably no worse than when you stick your tongue across a 9V battery (no significant current), but why would you do it? :laughing7:
Thats how I check my nine volt!!!

Chukers,

Could you post a picture of the information on the transformer. this will answer lots of questions.

Thanks,

Ed D.

this is what I'm using at the moment

thanks for the answers :icon_thumright:
but i have another question, and this is pretty interesting to say the least.

i found a 9 volt charger that im using now. have some kind of knut that im using as the sacrificial metal( it isnt magnetic so im assuming aluminum). and it is in some salt/water/lemon juice solution. now here is the question. my water is turning bright aquamarine-blue!

it literally looks like this

?

I would "Guess" either the Nut or
what are you cleaning ?

I Always use Stainless Forks, Butter Knives & spoons

I Just buy them by the Box full for a buck or 2 at yard sales

Also I Go Cheap & Just use Generic Iodized Salt,
& Tap water

im cleaning an iron hook i found just to test it out. and i had a stainless steel washer that i was using, but they say you arent supposed to. i really have no idea why it turned blue lol, it is pretty funny though. it still worked, there is a pile of rust and dirt at the bottom of the jar

Great Idea! :icon_thumleft:

Questions though:

1. What quantities (ratios) of lemon juice, salt, and water are used?
2. The lemon juice being the acid, will vinegar work instead of lemon juice?
3. I only have a 6 volt power supply, it may take longer, but do you think it will work?
4. Lastly, is the wire with the white markings on the power supply the positive?

Thanks,

Rick (Havilah_Springs)
