Electrolysis my way... NEW PICS!

I just wanted to share my experience with my home made Electrolysis setup...

Water... Lemon Juice... Salt... mix
18v AC Plug from a old phone
2 alligator clips
old spoon or fork
jar

clip red side to the spoon/fork clip black side to object

time: depend on corrosion and material you need to experiment with this... you can fry the item you are trying to clean... for example I leave a wheat penny in there for 3 to 5 minutes then I take it out and lightly rub it between my fingers with baking soda and water then rinse... repeat if necessary look below for results...

oh it is... just make sure your item you are cleaning don't touch the spoon/fork when its plugged in... I don't wanna see what happens if they do!

12 volt and 16 volt will work it just might take longer to clean it.

oh don't clean nickels after cleaning pennies they will turn pink

It all seems fairly easy but I have one question.

The red clip hooks to the fork or spoon and the black clip was said to hook to the object, meaning that the black clip would clip to the penny or whatever was being cleaned right?

correct... and if your object your trying to clean don't start bubbling with tiny bubble you got it backwards... just switch them around.

one thing that i cant find anywhere though. is it dangerous? if you touched the water, would it be more than just painful?
i want to clean some iron things i found, but id rather have dirty relics than a dead dog/cat/relative/self

once I plug it in I don't touch anything! when its done I then unplug the transformer and then I unhook the item I am cleaning. NEVER TOUCH the water when its plugged in... and NEVER touch both sides when its plugged in! I do not know what would happen and I'm not going to find out.

I have always knew how.. just never took the time... now its always ready to use... its an excellent tool for what we do... and its very cost effective! Glad I could help you guys make one.

I almost have a horseshoe done.n It takes.a bit but it is nice to see the rust disappear with each soak. How much salt and lemon juice do you use and how often would you change the water. I do see a green cloud around my horseshoe.

I have a small glass so I use about 2 table spoons of lemon juice and a teaspoon of salt then the solution get dark I change it. I usually only do a few coins when I am doing it...

you can touch the water

you can touch the spoon or fork & the water

you can touch the object & the water

however

If you touch the Spoon & The object

You will Light up like your in a X-RAY
& Everyone will see your bones

No just Kidding.

Actually it's much worse putting your tongue on a good 9 Volt.

You mention that you used an "18V AC Plug from an old phone". I'm assuming that you mean that it actually puts out a DC voltage of 18VDC but is plugged into an AC outlet. I can't imagine that a transformer that has an AC output would work. Then again, I'm not an expert in electrolysis.

I am not either...

its 18V DC the thing you plug into an AC PLUG outlet is called a transformer it converts AC to DC. I used to know all this stuff... I know its in this thick skull somewhere... but devices need DC because the AC coming from the wall is too much for gadgets to handle so the transformer converts it and steps it down so the device can work correctly and won't be fried. Probably why it don't hurt much to touch it... now if there was no step-down transformer... just direct wires you'll get a shock you'll remember.

as I was writing this it all came back to me or so I think it did... I'm not sure this is 100% accurate... I am going by memory... sure I could go look it up and be 100% correct... but what fun is that! This way I can think I learned something when I was younger LOL...

Just remember you don't need to keep it in there but a few minutes at a time! (the thing you are cleaning)

you guys correct me if I am wrong.

sounds right to me

Just be carefull both wires don't touch while
the plug is in the socket.

it will only throw a quick mild spark,
maybe not even noticable.
but your Charger will no longer work.

Also don't hook up large items.
the box on the Plug end will Heat up.
I'v had some so hot I Almost got Burns
trying to unplug from the wall.

Larger items need Larger output
which would also be more Tricky

first thing I do is cut the Plug off
Split the Wires & Bare them.

Plug the charger in

& Dip the 2 bare wires in the Solution.

the one that Bubbles goes to the object to clean.

Beware I Had a few both wires Bubbled.
