Working a 1850's house site, house now gone.

Nails all over the place.

Any idea on the key? The bump near the end is rust, not
part of the key. Also the end with the hole is a very
strang shape, not round.

all have a good un.........

Looks like a "barrell key", commonly used for drawers, cabinets, jewelry boxes, etc...in the 1800's and early 1900's. It's probably mid to late 1800's just like the nails.

Yes,

three thick, and the other 5 thin ones. Think the thin ones
were all the same size and the tips arr off 2 of them.

It's been a long day digging nails.

Jake,

thanks for the input.

Were the barrel keys so large?
This sucker is heavy as all heck, 3 3/4 inches long,
the part you hold is 1 1/2 inches.

Think it's going into a lye bath, so I can get a
better look at it.

I know you know about digging nails ;)
