Ebay a new low...

When e-bay took away the option of the seller to give feedback they left the seller at the buyers mercy. I've had people break the item on purpose due to buyers remorse send it back and PayPal almost always rules in buyers favor over anything. eBay is pretty weak now days the buyer base is diluted by Craigslist , amazon, all the Facebook buy and sell pages.

The way things are I sometimes worry about selling on ebay. I wish the post office would allow video recording, I would make videos of me demonstrating the item is in the described condition then packaging it up and shipping it as absolute proof. I fear even if I could do that ebay would still side with dishonest buyers.

I think there is a real opportunity for the USPS to pick up the slack.

They can offer a service that does certified ebay transaction inspections of items prior to shipping.

If they partnered with ebay and made it an officially ebay sanctioned service, then it could really solve a lot of the problems we are facing here.

USPS would make money offering the service and ebay would have a lot less claims and negative buyer/seller experiences.

Also shipping prices are astronomical from when I first started eBay

I thought of this years ago; it would have huge benefits.

I sent back a rifle scope that they seller had described wrong, and I didn't want. He claimed he never got it back, despite a delivery confirmation from that PO, a little town in Louisiana.

I contacted the Postmaster, and he actually went to the guys home, along with the carrier (on his day off) and got the guy to admit that he did receive it. I got my refund. Hat's off to the USPS in that instance; I sent a nice letter to the Senator and Congressman from that district.

Years ago I had a dispute with an absolute dingbat who Negged me after I won the bid on a Sea Otter fur hat for $50. She thought she should get $250 and refused to send it. She even claimed that it wasn't her hat to sell, but her uncle's! She offered a rabbit hat. I never did get the hat, but I did get a lesson in life: Stay away from dingbats - fast.

I had one buy a new carburetor from me, then claim it was old and rusty (opened a claim against me without messaging me first). He demanded full refund plus shipping. I sold it free shipping, so I was already out the original shipping. I told him the terms of the sale were that buyer pays return shipping, and that the carburetor was new and I knew it was. He returned it and I refunded him. It was fine. Not one spot of rust. It did, however, smell like gas (he used it). I sent him a message asking him what was really wrong with the carburetor so that I could figure out if I was going to relist it or not. He replied, saying it wouldn't adjust right. In other words, he has other problems with his equipment, not carburetor problems and he wanted to force me to refund his money. So now I have a carburetor that is not new anymore, and I'm out the shipping.

I had another guy I sold a carb to and when he got it, I received a message saying, "The carburetor came today and there was a tear in the package it was in. Now it's not going to work because there's no telling how much dirt is in it and I want to know what you're going to do about it". Lol. I wound up not having to refund his money because it worked after all.

Then you have the ones who bid up your item and never pay and tie your item up for however long it takes for the unpaid item case to be paid (you should lose your ability to buy on ebay for a month after not paying for an item, maybe longer).

There's also the guy who clicks buy it now on your item, then sends you a message saying nevermind, he found a cheaper one somewhere else.

Really ?? They charged you $300 on a $900 sale ??? Try to explain that so we can all understand you math ... 33% ??? I've sold a few higher end items and NEVER was charged a combined fee of 33% and even today I never would cause even adding up ALL the fees it would never equal that ... so you rant needs a bit of clarifaction ... IMHO , Woodstock
People like that lady suck. I can imagine what she is like to be around in person. She is probably a miserable turd all the time. I used to sell a lot on Ebay. Between the crazy people and Ebay/Paypal fees, it just isn't worth it to me anymore. I notice that the newer low feedback Ebayers were the worst. "I just paid for my item, why isn't it here already.." Last item I sold went for almost 900 bucks. Between Ebay and Paypal I ended with 600. Craziness.

hello all . i am new here and would like to respond.i just started ebay.never hearing any thing like i have just read im now a little leary about listing there can anyone recomend a similar site?thanks for your time

Those are just the bad stories. There are loads of transactions that go just fine. Don't let it worry you, ebay is overall a great place to sell. Any time you deal with the public, you're going to have trouble, no matter if it's on ebay, craigslist, or the flea market. You have to accept that before you even begin, deal with it in stride, and treat is as just a part of business.

Welcome and good luck. However, if you aren't even willing to give it a try, then we cannot help you. Most of learning these tips and tricks comes from actual real life experience. We post these stories and experiences so others can learn from our mistakes. The rest is up to you to do some work on your own.
