Well I had a great week meeting with friends, and enjoying the spring like weather this week. I did have a really good find with the Navy Wreath (catch) and a pleasant surprise digging the matching slide buckle! I'll just have to go back and find that tongue! Nevertheless, I'm thrilled to have found most of it. The Ceremonial Buckle was used for off duty soldiers, and the tongue would have sported the Anchor side. Used with a dirk (dagger) or sword this ting buckle measures about 2 inches total. What looks to be a crude knife, still with the rivets attached from the handle. Some real nice Dandy and Tombac's with a great looking 1800's heavy gilted cuffie. The lead piece looks to be a net weight dug in a 1700's forest site in NC. The biggest treasure last but least are my two daughter seen in the last pics. Priceless :)

Thanks for looking~!

Those little anchor design Tongue & Wreath buckles have been showing up from a number of sites over the years. :icon_thumright: Most it seems, are found in context with turn-of-the-century sites, and primarily areas that are non military or mixed use. Apparently these were fashionable at some point in the 1880-1920 period. Any supporting documentation for these as being attributed to Spanish use in the 18th century, is rather obscure at best. In fact, I cannot recall ever seeing the Tongue & Wreath style buckles of any shape, size, or design, that were actually found in context with Colonial American relics. The two-piece Tongue & Wreath style buckles gained peak popularity in the mid-19th century, and then carried on with sporadic appeal for several decades.

Here is another example of similar design:

I have to agree with you. The Buckle just doesn't have the "feel" of something that old you know? I would have to say late 1800's

Nice group of the Finds and Sweet looking Buckle :headbang: !
