I had mapped some old sites to investigate years ago. Jim and I found one that was covered with about two feet of modern gravel and dirt, crappola a no go. Earlier in the morning spotted some hedgerows with higher elevations that looked promising. After jumping a creek and walking into a new section of field the brick was everywhere, what a great feeling. I popped a thimble out first thing and the game was on. We dug the site most of the day and decided to try another rise in an adjacent field. Wow more brick everywhere with three inches of sticky mud. I stuck it out and found two buttons and went back to the site where the ground was good. The sun just started to set when we headed back to the muddy site and discovered the temp had dropped enough to hardened up the mud. Signals were pretty much everywhere and the big light was going out, eventually we were hunting in the dark. We decided to leave the site for another day it was hard to leave. Two fried coins, a Nova Scotia half penny token and a 1735 half cent. The two navy buttons look to be war of 1812. The watch key has a stag on one side and roses on the other, I like the decorative watch winders. The group of solid cast buttons are very old making these sites a very cool place to hunt. Had a great day hunting with Jim.
