1/4" one with adapter is not waterproof.
Need waterproof headphones with the M12 8 pin connector. Need to make sure it is tight.

Bingo! My fears were proven true. Thank you for responding with great information.

Well, I've learned a lot here. After the response here, I contacted a reliable friend - one who speaks the truth = TH. I'd explained to him that I would only submerse the CTX, not dive.

TH verified that the stock Koss UR-30 connection is NOT waterproof. He recommended Detector Pro CTX-3030 Underwater Headphones by DetectorPro through KellyCo at $175. I looked elsewhere for a better price. Kellyco will get my business for the first time since 1983 when I purchased my Fisher 1260X. On Ebay, they're the same price through anybody reputable listed.

From '81 through '85 I bought 9 detectors from Kellyco, and the only thing I've purchased from them since then was a gold panning kit. I just thought I'd get better deals elsewhere, plus there was a whole lot of bad press since I returned to the hobby. They've straightened that out now, and will get my business again.

Things always work out in the end if you pay attention and do the right thing.

It's Deep, and now my CTX may get deep as well :)

If you don't plan to get the headphones themselves wet, you can buy replacement M12 8 pin connector and solder it on to your existing headphones? A
lot cheaper than spending $150 - 200 for a set of waterproof ones and they will sound much better.

Where would someone get the replacement M12 8 pin connectors?

They are a European style connector usually used for sensor signal cables in industrial equipment. There are a lot of companies / brands that make / sell them. Are available with solder on terminals (least expensive ones) or screw terminals. Shipping can cost you more than the connector in a few cases. Shoot me a PM.

Wait....so the stock headphones for the CTX shouldnt be used in the water? I havent used mine at all yet because of the heat...but is that true?

The machine includes a headphone adaptive module for use with the standard headphones with the 1/4" male connector.
These are not meant for uses in the water. Module will mate with the M12 8 pin connector on the machine and keep water out of the detector but water can get into the female 1/4" connector used in the module.

They are not waterproof and neither is the headphone jack module, if you remove the headphone jack module you will see the connector where waterproof headphones are to be attached by screwing them on...

If you want to hunt in the water, you either need to do one of three things:

- remove the headphone module (the piece just above the battery) and install the plug over the connector in Treasure Hunter's photo and use the speaker

- use one of the water proof headphones made for the CTX Minelab Koss CTX 3030 and GPZ 7000 Waterproof Headphones or Detector Pro Grey Ghost Underwater CTX 3030

- or plug the connector as mentioned above and use normal headphones with the wireless module - assuming you can keep the module and your headphones dry, AS THEY ARE NOT WATERPROOF.

Like Jeff mentioned, you can change the plug on your favorite pair of headphones but you would be limited to using them with the CTX 3030 only... and chances are they are not submersible anyway.

Hi Deepseeker, I will respond to your PM on your thread.

Concerning the use of the CTX3030 in the surf or underwater:

Surf USE :

- GGUW are not so good due to the low sound pressure they are offering.
- GG Amphibian with OBN MOD => perfect
- MAL Surf phones, not tested but I trust 100% in MAL production
- Scully headphones => need to ask to OBN for the CTX version

Underwater USE:

-GGUW => a joke, can't stay on your head and you can't hear them
- KOSS YELLOW => worse then on the Excalibur underwater LoL.....
- AGA Bone Phone => the best choice, but need to place a CTX M12-8 pin Plug

Unfortunately, for underwater use there is NO other choice. GG Amphibian or OBN/MAL production will die after 15/20 hours of use underwater.

All real underwater headphones (except bone phones) are using the SAME PIEZZO waterproof speakers...

I never had a single leak problem on the headphone plug. I always put some waterproof outboard grease (the green one) on the screw and regularly dive down to 30-50ft with no issue.
