I just had this button that I dug confirmed by TheCannonballGuy posted under "What is it forum". This is a first kind of find for me - an early front Eagle w/shield (manufactured from 1854 through 1875), with a later back (manufactured by Steele & Johnson Mfg Co. from 1875-through-1920). This was dug at a Spanish-American war training camp. I'm no expert and am still learning about button history, so much thanks to TheCannonballGuy and my hunting buddy Fyrffytr1 for educating me! The last photo is after I cleaned it. I sure enjoyed digging her up!
