What a great day I thought I was gona get skunked as usual at this pounded out site. This is the same site my avatar belt plate came from. I dug these all in one hole. Filled in the hole after the first one then rescanned. And got another signal only to repeat the process a third time the backmark on the readable on is one that was made from 1850 to 1865. I found these at one of my hunted out cellar holes. I put the wot coil on and hit woods around the site. There has to be more but I was out of time. I had to tear my self away to meet my wife. I never dug 3 of anything out of a single hole before. I wonder how they got all in one spot. Discarded coat hopefully.

nice find! imho it's likely the old owner lost his jacket and it rotted in to the ground leaving the buttons for you to find- it would figure that someone who was a tailor would have them in a jar and likely have mixed kinds, so logically it is likely it was someone's old jacket that got left behind... :icon_pirat:

it might be a good idea to hit that area again, when you have more time. (but i'm sure your going back there! right :) )

That's the first thing I was think of too. Dropped/lost coat or jacket ???

Re: Eagle button spill!

UPDATE
Went back today and finally located the spot where I made the first finds. I used my pro coil this time scanned all around the spot. But no good signals. Went to all metal mode and got a weak broken signal that was all over the ID screen but sounded like a shotgun shell. It was about a foot from the original hole. I dug a deep hole before my pinpointer would read anything. Then ten inches down I pulled out the missing button. All from a signal I never would have dug under any other circumstances. Definitely a 4 button jacket! Let the research begin. I will put a name to that Jacket I already have the land owners name in 1867. Best find of my year!

Sweet!

Tell us more about this WOT coil for Minelabs please?
Just a big ole DD coil I got off eBay used for $120. Great for big areas that are not too junked up. Coiltech is a good brand they used to make all of minelabs coils till they started making them in house. Can't wait for cooler weather cause this site is not hunted out. I just need to fan out a bit from the cellar holes. Happy hunting, RL

That is awesome that you were able to find another button. wtg

Just another idea, if you have the time. It might be worth it dig and sift the dirt in that area.

That had crossed my mind also in the cellar holes would be a good place.

I really enjoy reading stories like this. Finding a button is great, but find all 4 from, probably, the same sack coat. Now that's cool!

Thanks man, I am thrilled to have a complete set. And to think aside from depth every indication was that they were just yet another shot gun shell base. The signal was so similar. I am so glad I dug that original signal!

That's a cool find. I dug a jacket worth of KY state seal buttons in KY a year or two ago. Oh, and one thing you are missing is the cuff buttons. Scan, scan, and scan again. :coffee2:

Cheers,

Buck

Very Cool dig's
