Hello All, I recovered this at a site which was active from approx 1790-1842 when it burned in a fire. It may be a bit hard to see, but there is an eagle with its head turned left, and upward spread wings, with branches and arrows in its talons down below. This is the same style of eagle as appears on US “capped” and “coronet” gold coins. The piece is die stamped thicker brass so the back has no additional details or marks. There is a raised rim on the side with the eagle. I don’t know if the hole is integral to the piece or if it was done later. If it were straightened it’d be slightly smaller than a US quarter. Any idea what this could be?

I actually wondered if it was a Folger & Blake issue or a Gasquet, Parish & Co. Dry Goods hard times token but I don’t see a motto above the eagle or an obverse design of any sort. Were there any powder flasks made with a piece like this around the pour spout?
