My Gramps came up for a visit today. He's 71, but he still gets around alright. He brought along his metal detector and we went to a spot I have been researching that I had on my "springtime" list. Its the site of an old CCC camp and was also used for German POWs. Well we set out and spent about an hour or so there if that. Lot of hunters use this area so it pretty trashy. But we did find a few small buckles. I found 3 and he found 1. Kinda cool, made by Rau Fastener Co. Im sure they had some part to play in one of the camps.

We only spent maybe an hour here, Found also what looks like a line of outhouse holes, about 5 of them, could be something I might dig in the future. iunno. Gramps' back was getting sore so we headed out and back home. I'll be back to that place in the spring. Also found a wheatie there but I can't read the date.

So we get back and he's gotta get going home, so we say our goodbyes and he's off for home.... and I'm off over to my great grampa's house with my metal detector! I just can't detect for only 1 hour! I needed more!

I've been at this place with my detector too many times to count, but I always pull up at least some clad and something interesting, so I keep going back. My dad still lives on the property. Found another wheatie, so thats 2 today, which is good for me. And some clad and few random things.

Today's interesting find is a lead belt buckle with an eagle on the front. Probably belonged to my great grandpa. It says OdeN on the back

So it was a good day. Its always good when I can get out MDing, no matter what I find! Thanks for looking!

Cool finds, Zee! Glad you are able to hunt with your Dad still. .. That is priceless in itself, and to find some nice goodies in addition is simply splendid.
I am not sure the attachment type on that cool eagle buckle goes back past the 1960's, but it sure looks like it's a million years old! I Like it! :icon_thumleft:

60s sounds about right. My great grandpa was living at the location in that time-frame

Way to go Guys. Nice recoveries. That eagle buckle would get my heart pumping. :icon_thumleft:
I wish my Dad were still around. Fishing together was out bonding time.
Great post,
MM
