Dumping Canadian Coin

I have put steel Canadian pennies, nickels, and quarters through the old Magner counting machines at TD Bank and they count as U.S. currency. They get stuck to a magnet in newer penny arcades, though. I didn't try dimes since they are a different size I think.

For the canadian dimes, check the dates. I just found out myself that the 1967-68 canadian dime is 50% silver, as is the 1967-68 Quarters are. The 1920-67 dimes and quarters are I think 90% silver. This is according to Coinflation.com website. I was gobsmacked when I saw that. Imagine all those years of getting rid of my canadian money, except the quarters and some dollar pieces, I like those, I might have been giving away perfectly good silver. eeesh, not that you could have seen it due to the canadian currency compared to the american one. Anywhose, there are my two pennies worth, (pun intended LOL)

sincerely, GarouLady

I've discovered that the vending machines around me will take the 75% copper, 25% nickel Canadian coins but not the steel ones. I keep the 99.9% nickel.

Here is a better list for you and everybody else:

Technical Aspects - Canadian Circulating Coinage

I've got the same problem.

Isn't it funny: We buy Fed wrapped rolls from the bank that can be loaded with Canadian, but when you try to sell the same Canadian coin back to the bank, or use it at any business, it gets rejected?

I had $8 in Canadian coins, but thankfully my folks are headed to Nova Scotia. The last $6 I had...I gave to a friend who was traveling to Ontario.

Lol I've got almost 1000 in Canadian, there is a place in Philly called sansom coin exchange that buys some foreign coins

You can drop a few hand fulls of washers then the funny money. It will get buy the mags...

LOL! I hope you know this from someone else's experience, not your own. Hehe

I can see how that would work though.
