Not drilled all the way is pretty cool. If they had finished it it may have been smoked up!! Nice to see how they made and drilled them. Nice finds.

I agree with nature girl nice find. In hockey country that would be a hat trick. Nice preform pipe.

Thanks for the input. When I pulled it out of the ground I thought it was another chunker. Thanks guys!!!!!!!!

Awesome find Keith. Most Platform Pipes are Hopewell, but I have a feeling that one is actually Ft Ancient in age since the site you have been digging has produced mostly artifacts from that culture. Is it sandstone?

Killer find, finished or not. Great job!!!!

I do not think it is sandstone. The material is hard below the patina, but I will post a pic of the botttom which is a hardstone/celt type material later. Thanks Guys/Steve. Keith

Catherine - Banner all the way! An platform pipe preform is rarer than any other Indian artifact I've seen posted in at least the last two years. Many people will hunt a lifetime and never find any even close to that rare. I love finding points as much as the next guy but I don't own a single one I wouldn't trade for what you just found.

Great find. Unbelievable.

i have been moving a little dirt on a fort ancient sight, have not found anything that nice, but seeing that sure does give me alot of hope. thanks for sharing that is a great find.

Very, very cool artifact. Wow. Congrats! That thing should be on banner.

Chuck

I think I saw it up for sale this mornining on another site... I dont know i have seen a few unreal finds not make the banner..... I does take some votes to get them..... John

Thanks for all those comments guys. After finding the cache blades last year I figured my luck had run out. But this find makes me think that there are tons of artifacts still out there to be discovered. I actually found this pipe because of the snow we had. I went to my digging site, and the ground had about a half inch of snow on it. But there are a few cedar trees there and the ground was bare of snow on one side of them. So I picked the bare spot of a tree standing out all by its self. And thats when I found the pipe in the second hole that I dug. I was really excited to find it! Digging is very hard work though. And I did put it up for sale on another site. However, I do not know what it is worth. All of my artifact sales go directly to my children. I sold my cache blades to pay for my daughters wedding this summer. And I am unemployed from Dec. to March. Without unemployment benefits! Self employed. And most of my friends and family are not interested in them. But times are not bad if you look at how these people survived. We are spoiled. And I have given some Artifacts away. Thanks again for your time and response.

I know a lot of people do not sell artifacts, and that is great. But I do not have the resources to display mine at shows. And if I sell it to a collector at least it will be displayed so other people can enjoy it! But I keep all my artifacts in a shoe box. And if I did not sell the important pieces to a collector. l would have to change my name to Museum! And I try not sell to resellers. I just love finding the stuff. And love to see what everyone has found on the forums.. I do appreciate your comments and opinions. Merry Christmas!!
