Relic Hunting
Dman has been very busy with his store so we have not had much time at all to go relic hunting since early November. I did get him free for a two hour hunt this morning. Plan "A" was to go to a new site that I am 100% sure has relics and I had already secured permission for us both to hunt. However, I promised the landowner that we would never come to his farm unless we advised him first. Unfortunately, I forgot to call and he was not home. We always have a Plan "B".
I had not hunted the adjoining property to the the Plan "A" site in probably 8 years and Dman had never been there. We did have permission to hunt. We went into the woods after fighting the briars and wading the stream. I had my F75 and Dman took his F75 LTD. After 10 minutes of hunting, Dman found a round ball and I dug the brass saddle shield-my first. I found one melted bullet and Dman found 3 .58cal. 3 ring bullets to go with the round ball.
We did find the Plan "A" landowner before we left and are set up to hunt there the first chance we get. Happy Hunting and Merry Christmas from Middle Tennessee.

Thanks Mike, Joe, and Ty. Dman and I have a lot to be thankful for this year. We have been in Western and Eastern Treasures Magazine three times this year and North and South Civil War Trader once in 2009. It's going to be hard to top that. Merry Christmas guys and may 2010 be your best hunting year!!!

Great save on the sheild you dont see as many of those as you would like, congrats :headbang:

Nice find. I hope you and Dman the best of luck on the other site.

Very nice shield! I've only found one that wasn't mutilated, and it had no kind of I.D. on it. Plus, it was at an old homesite, so more than likely a farmer's saddle shield. Great Job! Good luck and here's to more great hunting in the new year! Regards, Richard

Wow that is a nice one, tell Dman to lock up that shop a little more and get out there and hunt, lol. I saw him at the DIV. Again congrats on the find, I'm sure you all will be adding more nice stuff in 2010. My hunting buddy John dug a saddle shield just like that Nov.08.

Thanks Bama Nana. I predict that you and Lisa will be ready for a hunt the week after Christmas following a wild time with the Grandkids. I have really enjoyed your posts this year. You are truly the Queen of tax tokens. HH.

Thanks Tim and DH. Unfortunately, we were rained out at that site today. Tim, John and I apparently found twin shields. They look Confederate but a local relic expert told me that they were used on saddles by the Yankee Cavalry also.
You guys in Oklahoma and Missouri are lucky in that there are CW camps there plus post war camps where the soldiers still had equipment used in the war. That increases you chances of finding good CW relics. You guys have a Merry Christmas and dig a Banner in 2010!!!

I quote........."Unfortunately, we were rained out at that site today."
Who's the wimp now buddy? :laughing9: Rain? What's a little rain? :toothy2: We had SNOW over here today. At least
1/1,000,000th of an inch deep. ;D
You'll get em' next time.
