Relic Hunting
Dman has been very busy with his store so we have not had much time at all to go relic hunting since early November. I did get him free for a two hour hunt this morning. Plan "A" was to go to a new site that I am 100% sure has relics and I had already secured permission for us both to hunt. However, I promised the landowner that we would never come to his farm unless we advised him first. Unfortunately, I forgot to call and he was not home. We always have a Plan "B".
I had not hunted the adjoining property to the the Plan "A" site in probably 8 years and Dman had never been there. We did have permission to hunt. We went into the woods after fighting the briars and wading the stream. I had my F75 and Dman took his F75 LTD. After 10 minutes of hunting, Dman found a round ball and I dug the brass saddle shield-my first. I found one melted bullet and Dman found 3 .58cal. 3 ring bullets to go with the round ball.
We did find the Plan "A" landowner before we left and are set up to hunt there the first chance we get. Happy Hunting and Merry Christmas from Middle Tennessee.

CW Relic Count (Not counting button backs, campfire lead, and non-CW period coins)
7-1-2006 until Dec. 31,2008=467 relics
2009 Relics YTD=113

Hi, I've never bothered to keep running totals of my finds on an annual basis. I think I'll start keeping a check from 1st January.
Best wishes for Christmas & the New Year...

Great finds. That shield looks great.

Nice saddle shield ..Great site's with more to discover! ..Best to U

That's a nice relic.

Might move down to the south in the future. It would be alot of fun civil war hunting. The NE is great for old coins. But you guys get alot of nice finds also.

He's cheap if there are CW relics or old coins involved-LOL. He should pay ME a hefty Guide FEE!! He asked me today if I "guaranteed" that we would find CW relics today and I said "Yep-Guaranteed". I'm glad we did or I would never have heard the last of it. Thanks MM and HH!

I may be cheap but I am good. You should pay me a lot because when you go relic hunting with me you always find something good. You keep hanging around me for the next 50 years you might learn something, Grasshopper.

Nice I believe that's a confederate saddle shield.
That's my thinking too but it came from the middle of a U.S. CW Camp??? Thanks for looking and HH....

It's wierd where you dig stuff sometimes. that thing just doesn't look like a standard saddle shield. not quite rounded enough.

That's a beautiful piece. I've seen 'em eaten up and spit out by the plow before.

Congratulations, my friend! :icon_thumleft:

Thanks BB and Romeo. BB, this one was in the woods but the area had been cropped earlier (probably in corn-post war) as Dman and I noticed all the trees in the area were smaller, young trees. Thanks to all who replied and HH.

Thats a decent looking saddle shield Congrats :icon_thumleft:

Thanks Josh. Dman reminded me that we were actually there a lot less than 2 hours before he had to return to his store-just lucky. Sorry I missed seeing you in VA in November. Thanks for looking and HH. You have made some great finds yourself this year. Relic hunting is great fun isn't it?
