I took Jeremy (JerV3) to a couple of my spots yesterday and we did pretty good on buttons with 23 between the two of us. My best was this early navy button. I have never dug one of these before. The backmark is A. W. Spies - For Sea Service. I also dug an early flower button (1790s), an 1869 Indian, and some other flat buttons. Most of what we got was from the same spot where I dug an eagle on a cannon artillery button a couple weeks ago. Jeremy called me last night and said one of his buttons turned out to have a bugle and 13 stars. Sounds like he got a Rifleman's button!

That is a great looking button. Sure will display nicely. :icon_thumright:

You dug an early military and that is what matters. :icon_thumleft: You are adding new stuff to your collection as well. :headbang:

Looks like it was a good day to dug buttons

Nice finds steve.

Thanks again for the hunt. Was nice to get out to a early site. The button you got is what makes it worth while.

Jeremy

how do all the buttons get in the ground, did they through there coats on the ground after the war was over,or did they get ripped of in battle or did the soldger have to leave in a hurry an the coat got left behind.or did a person die in that very spot and the only thing left is his buttons

Whata a fantastic button, congratulations!!1
