At this point, I don't know if it's real or fake, just got it home.
I dug this at an older picnic spot. Feels slightly heavy, yet a magnet does not stick.
I'm used to my silver coming out of the ground shiney, although I've seen a few Morgans posted on here that were really tarnished. Can anyone please suggest a cleaning method other than electrolysis, as I'm not equipped for that. Thanks, ffd

Id say 99.99% real. I have found Barber dimes in a school yard where the school burned and your coin looks just like mine. The black stuff is probably from the intense heat. I think its safe to call it real. :headbang:

WTG on your Morgan looks real to me. You are getting hot on the silver this year....Matt

You should have left it black but I just noticed this post too late to tell you. Old silver will turn black and it would have been worth more in my opinion to leave it as is. Coins and relics with a dark, even patina are in high demand now and it will almost always lower value to shine a coin. Unless its just dirt or soot, it would be better to leave the patina. It was one of the darker patinas I have ever seen. :'( It looked beautiful to me. At this point, you might as well use Tarnex. To clean or not to clean is often a tough decision. Nice find for sure.

looks like a real but fire scorched coin to me , which matches up very nicely with the fact you said that a church burnt in 1900 on the site you found it at ---seems you got some "church money" thats been thru a fire to me.

I have cleaned coins in a solution of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide. Put an ounce or so of each in a small microwavable dish enough to submerge the item completely . Heat the solution for about 20 -25 seconds and (it will come out bubbling somewhat) and then put the coin in immediatly. Leave it in for a minute or so . It may come out perfectly on it's own , but if not , take some of the solution with a toothbrush and gently brush it on . It may not work on everything but I've had good luck with it sometimes.

Awesome score on the Morgan  it does look like it went through a fire, also coins that have been under concrete for a long time will look the same and usually don't come out that clean so I would say probably fire considering the church burned at one time, awesome find indeed!

It looks like it has a silver sulfide tarnish. All you need is spit and foil. Spit on coin and rub with smooth foil. It works! Nice find for sure. Congrats!! :icon_thumleft:

Nice Morgan dollar!!! Congrats!
