Hello fellow prospectors
I am new to the forum but i have read lots of treads and learned a lot through people expirence . So i want to share mines , i have been dredging for about 8 months with a 4" dredge i built homemade . I have recovered about 3 ounces of gold in about 2 different gold deposit here in the dominican republic. But i have started to believe i would be better off metal detecting since is all season machine, less costly to operate, lighter in weight and a one person operating machine. Now in fully aware of the fact they are totally different to each other and are different tools but im looking for what might be more effective in recoverying gold . I have had once a safari minelab once which i bought to look for gold coins which here in DR are known to have but i sold it to get in prospecting. Now i havent found nothingy speaking on this subject yes i read on some guy name steve selling his dredge 2 get in metal detecting , but thats about it .

Can you people who might have experience nugget shooting around gold deposit around rivers and creeks . Tell me how effective is this method and what is better . I have recently bought a F75se which i havent recieved it yet which is what i would be learning the curve with to this whole different field.

John has a lot of hose time, and he is telling you the truth, if you are offended or thin skinned, try and overlook the manor in which he told you and take the advice and get a lot more gold.
The thing is i know i cant buy things for my dredge for the best performance right now. I know im able to keep working to then buy the piece or refabricate one with a 11degree angle. Those are my only choices i have & i have to work with what i have. I know the keene family didnt know everything they knew right away and through out the years they remodified everything to a more efficient dredge.im 99% sure there are better jets then those build keene, proline ect. Like these octa jet & infinity jets. So i dont believe im ignorant i just believe im opened minded that i can see beyond buying something that i can make. But hey some people just havent pass through the need of having to build their own. So those who have are the ones that could help me right now.

With enough knowledge you are able to refrabricate even a modern dredge to a higher performance; by more fine gold recovery and better suction meaning could use a smaller pump.

Okay i just went out metal detecting with the F75se the day before yesterday and yesterday but didnt find no gold just some very thin wires, nails & a pick . Im starting to learn how the machine acts to hotrocks and how it gives me off a #14 on the meter but i have taken a 2 grain nugget with me to test the detector. In the air test with the 5" coil it would sound off like 4inches away from the coil but when i layed the nugget in the creek i was detecting; i would have to almost touch the nugget with the coil for it to produce a very low tone. Not as hot as i would thought it would be with small gold .. I imagen i would need to be finding larger nuggets that i thought; since also i cant get my coil as closes to the floor since the rocks. I also encounter a problem i believe i didnt have with my stock coil ; well i took the coil off to test the 2grain nugget with my 5" coil but when replacing it back to the stock coil it started to make a overloading sound that if i dont drop sensitivity Under 30 it wont stop screaming. I Dont know if i have a defective coil; but everything seems to work back to normal afterwards.
