Today Mr Stuff (Dave) drove up to hunt with me, and wow....we both had a KILLER day!

We hunted sidewalk curb strips and a couple old houses. Our finds were just awesome today. He was kicking my butt on silver and I grumbled that I had not YET dug a silver coin yet today and the very next signal was a solid 12-45 at 4-5"...........I cut the plug and opened it up. I saw a silver dime, pulled it out of the hole and right away I saw it was a merc....cool. I yelled at Dave, "hey I finally got a silver!" then I looked at it and saw the 1916, and nervously flipped it over and saw the D.....instantly I started shaking. I am still in utter amazement, this is a once in a lifetime find. Thank God I did not scratch it.

It got rinsed very gingerly with water, and took it straight to the bank safety deposit box until I can send it in to be graded and slabbed.

Other than that the rest of my finds were awesome, I ended up getting a silver trifecta, 1946 rosie, the 1916D merc, and a 1905 barber dime.

3 injuns, bunch of wheats, best being a 1909. A good luck token, buffalo nickel, play coin. Lead soldier, and bunch of clad as well.

I am still amazed, I took dirty pictures of the 1916-D and rinsed pictures as well. I can't wait to send it in, any ideas what it will grade?

Mr. Stuff had an awesome silver day.....I think he got a double trifecta of silver dimes as well as a silver half. What a DREAM hunt! thanks to everyone for looking!!!!!

Congrats on a great hunt and the 1916 D. Great stuff.

I have no power at home so I had to wait until I got to work to see this bad boy.

Also congrats on the banner.

You found one of the white wale's of every coin hunters dream! That is just a beautiful coin, so rare and expensive! I would send it to PCGS. Congratulations

AWESOME HUNTING BRO!!!!!!! :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Great find! Rekindles my enthusiasm to get back into coin shooting. Never even thought about sidewalk/curb strips. I guess old bus/trolley stops would be a great place to start for later coins. Some finds are better than none for sure. Gives the required practice in using your MD on coins.
I guess you're just waiting on the results and enjoying the moment... :coffee2: :coffee2: :coffee2:
Congrats on the banner. They did a great job on the display. Thanks for the pics. :headbang: :laughing9: :notworthy:

Nice digs!! and hey, if you put the 1909 wheat together with a 1909 Indian, that would be an impressive collection in itself. WTG!! :icon_thumleft:

sidewalk strips in my town have paid off tremendously! Many, many good finds, indians, silver, you name it....I stick to the oldest areas of town and they always have gave up the goods!

Was searching eBay and just saw the exact good luck token sold on there recently for $19.95.....nothing compared to the dime, but still a sweet find, I found it earlier that morning and it actually made my day as a good luck token with a swastika has always been on my want list. Cool piece of history for sure

Man, I would say vg-8 or vg-10. That's why we detect! Awesome find for sure, congrats!

A big Congrat's T, I know you well enough to know that you put in the time swinging the coil to be one of the few ppl to find a 16 D Merc.

Congratulations on finding the "Holy Grail of Dimes"!!! That one is still on my wish list. I dint know if this has been addressed yet, but does it say anything on the back of the 1909 wheat? Nevertheless... A true Dream Hunt indeed!
Congrats on the Banner.

Keep It Up! M.J.

Congrats on finding that 1916D dime- wow!!!! WINNER!!!!!

I was wondering that myself- vdb? about that 1909 wheat? isn't that a keydate for wheats? I seem to recall seeing that a 1909S VDB was like also a $1500 coin- I might be wrong...so it's worth looking up...you might have a double keydate header going on!!!! rock on man. :headbang:

ah I searched for you... this is what I found...
http://www.coinstudy.com/lincoln-penny-value.html

seems the 1909 with out the 'S' mark isn't too much- ah- you had a outstanding find with that dime anyhow!!! green with envy man. good find!

yea the 1909 was a plain, No S or VDB
