The monsoon finally moved out of western Pennsylvania around noon yesterday and the skies brightened up. I was visiting my parents over the weekend, but I had my metal detector with me so I decided to try and get a few hours in before heading back to Pittsburgh. Farm fields were out of the question due mud and standing water, so I decided to try the Deus out at an old site I have hunted many times over the last 18 years. This place is grassy and drains well so mud and water wouldn't be a problem.

This is a pretty old site for my area, and I have recovered 27 coppers and 3 Spanish silvers here, including an 8 reale and a cut pistareen, not to mention the buttons and other relics. I wasn't expecting to find much because I have hit this place hard with every new machine I get. This was the Deus' first crack at this place and it lived up to it's reputation.

Copper #28 finally made it's appearance, a Draped Bust large cent. I am going to work on it some more tonight to see if I can bring the date out.

Here are a couple dirt shots - Copper #28 peaking out of the dirt and a freshly dug, large and shiny tombac.

Sweet Steverino 28 coppers and all the other coins that site was a hard worked site for sure!Makes you ponder if it was the same people losing them over and over..Was the date range varied by much on them all?
Good to see you out swinging..

What a beauty looking site Steve, and hunting day. I just got absolutely buried here by snow and there’s power lines down blocking my driveway. No hunting for me! Haha.

Great finds

Excuses! Lol

COPPERS WERE WORTH SO MUCH BACK THEN. EVERY TIME I SEE ONE I WONDER WHAT HAPPENED TO CAUSE THEM TO LOSE ONE. Sorry for the caps

More people back then in the NE , more $ per-ca pita , ? & A new guess deep Snow.

One flat button would make my Day.

Thanks Blaze, I though this post had fallen into the abyss long ago :laughing7:
Probably the oldest coin was an cut pistareen, but the coppers ranged from a 1749 KG II to an 1810 half cent. The site was along a major colonial route which is still in use today, so I believe the coins were lost by various people. I even found a 1795 Bermuda copper here.

I thought this site was dead Steve, but I let it alone for a few years and then went back with the Deus and was pleasantly surprised. On the bright side, all this snow should have the weeds matted down flat when it finally melts

Nice digs Steve! Hope you have a great season digging relics:occasion14:

Well done Steve. Awesome to let a site rest for awhile then sneak up on it and score a few more keepers

Excellent hunt:occasion14: at least you can get out, I just got 8 inches:BangHead:

Great site and finds Steve. My Deus continues to amaze on old beaten sites. Sadly not much time so I end up on the same old places.
