Last week I received a call from a woman who asked me why I kept calling her. I replied to the woman that I didnt know who she was and had never called her. She proceeded to get very angry saying my number was coming up in her call log and she wasn't answering it because she didn't recognize the number.

Today I received a call from a gentleman telling me the same thing who got very irate when I told him I have never called him.

I called Verizon and explained what had happened and was told that businesses are using an app on their phone systems for their robo calls and telemarketers where they can route their calls through another person's number so people cant call them back. If you call back you get the person who's number they hijacked. Guy that called me today picked up the call the third time around and found out it was a robo call trying to sell him an extended warranty on his automobile.

The reason I'm writing this is if you are receiving calls from a number you dont recognize and you decide to call the number back...dont be surprised if the person on the other end has no idea what your talking about.

It's called spoofing, I encountered this several years ago when some nefarious character was hiding behind my number. I kept getting call backs on missed calls I never made. Now I just dont answer an unknown number. If important, they'll leave a message.

Your right controlfreq, I couldn't remember what the Verizon CSR called it but that's it. Only thing I could do was change my number. I didnt want irate people to keep calling me.

This needs to be addressed. Good thing I don’t rule the world because it would be the death penalty for these blankety blanks!

Yep I called a Number back a Few years ago there was a Mother & Daughter at the Other end.
They both Swore they didn't Call me. I Researched them before Calling back & Even told them
I knew where they Lived, & That they were Scammers.

I felt really Bad after when I found out about spoofing.

Since then I have received a Call from a Woman who told me not to call her anymore.
I said You called Me ! :laughing7: I did try to explain to her about Spoofing.

All the scammers do it, so they can't be caught so easy.

I Think they try to get numbers from those who Don't answer Robo Calls,
Figuring they are Dead Numbers. But most are just ignoring most calls.

I have since started Answering Every Call. It's a Pain, But I do it anyway
to Harass those who have Live Callers.

I did answer one "Pennsylvania State Police, May I Help You"
Must have Scared the Ba-Jeeveers out of them They immediately Hung Up.
I Never did it again. Not sure of the Legality

They only go after & Catch the Scammers who claim to be IRS.
the rest are Ignored

Back a time before robo calls, when there were real people on the other end, I used a recorded message,I taped from the phone service.....”beep beep beep, if you’d like to make a call, please hang up and ..........”
it worked real well then.

There is one I Harass every time she calls & Doesn't recognize my Voice .
When she does She immediately Hangs up.

"Connie"

Next time I'm going to say $20. To stop By, $40 if she don't need a Bag over her Head :laughing7:

It's always a New Philadelphia Number, But probably from India.

Ever notice some of these Numbers have a + in front of them ?

+ is a country code. May as well Ignore them

You guys talk about bad.. I block every number I don’t know. Even if I block them, all they will do is use another number, sometimes using just one different digit. I’ve been called by someone who cussed me for calling them constantly. I looked up on my phone, phone bill, and never once had I called the person. All the 479-883 numbers you see on my Missed Calls shows is cell phone numbers for near me. Except they’re not cell phones, they are just using someone else’s number to scam you. I’ve even had people text me to ask me why I called them, and one dude went so far as calling me a liar, I showed him my call log, and getting him to believe it was like pulling teeth. Everyday I block at least 2-3 calls. It’s gotten worse. I’m pretty sure here in Arkansas they passed a bill for unsolicited calls, and spam calls. So I may start answering them, and explain to them the new state/federal law IMG_5799.png

that's why they use fake Numbers.
it makes these Laws useless.

you can't file charges against someone you can't trace.

My guess, First someone like Homeland security has to Get the call, Play along
and get a Bank account stolen. then they gotta trace where the account went.

they are probably the only ones with the equipment to get around fake numbers

This all started from a bill that was passed to allow teachers to use the schools number from home when calling students unfortunately this also allowed anyone to spoof numbers, you can download a app and spoof away, Iv done it and got my boss good spoofing his bosses number..he still doesnt know it was me lol

I Remember when it started I Got a call from 666

No one on the other end but I thought it was Pretty Cool,
and of course I was confident it was a Friend.

of course I occasionally use
[h=1]Call My Lost Phone.com[/h]
which makes me wonder if they save & sell Numbers

I've gotten a Call from my own number also.

Don't know if it was Me trying to tell myself Time Travel Works :dontknow:

But I Didn't talk to myself when I said Hello :(

So help me understand something? When I am given a telephone number (land line or cell phone) I get a monthly bill and the phone provider has my address. I get x amount of BS calls every day that I never answer, but block the numbers. Then they get a new phone number and call me again the next day.

So, the phone company doesn't have any idea who these callers are and where they're located that they have given phone numbers to?

Yea I'm sure they know , Or can find out.
I'm also still confident Phones have a Virus That lets Scammers Know
odds on best time to expect your near your phone and making & Answering calls.
& that ATT at least Sells Numbers

Phone switches are fun. I set my extension to ***** when I was reverse engineering
the protocols used in the NEC NEAX2400 phone switch at the university I work at.

If you want the real calling number, get an ISDN phone line. The caller ID can be spoofed
but the real SS7 data shows up in the logs, if you turn on full logging. I used a Cisco ISDN router.

I got a 3 am call from some kids in the neighborhood playing pranks. Walked down stairs and
pulled the logs, gave them a call back. The kid said "I did *67 (outgoing caller ID blocking), how did you get my number?..."

I have even received a call from myself!?! The Caller ID showed it was me calling my home phone number on the home phone that was ringing?!?! :BangHead:

We NEVER answer the phone unless we recognize the name.

LOL I Just got a Call from some old Lady.

"Hello did I Just get a Call From this Number ?"

"No you Didn't !"

"ok, My garbled Bye"

i got a call once ? caller id said it was God calling ? so i answered and there was no response. must have been my ex wife givin me the silent treatment again ? LOL
