On Saturday I hunted a soccer field for two hours and came up with 29 coins worth $7.82. The two dollar coins I found were the first ones of the year and both were fresh drops right on top of the ground and about four feet apart. I also dug a very small and thin sterling silver ring which weighed in at only .88 grams and currently has a melt value of a whopping 81 cents. The ring has a hallmark I've never seen before and couldn't find on the internet. It shows the usual .925 and that is followed by a letter "C" with a circle around it and that in turn is followed by a dollar sign. Anyone have an idea as to the hallmark?

looks like a lotta fun, luv that silver too!

That's a good haul!

Regarding the silver ring, it's always better if you can show us the actual mark rather than describe what you think you can see. I suspect it's not a $ sign, but a conjoined 'Sb' like this:

Schube.jpg

That's the mark for Shube’s Manufacturing Inc. of Albuquerque, NM. They started operating sometime in the 1960s as a wholesaler and mail order business. In 2006 they were acquired by an Ohio conglomerate and continued trading under the new name “Shube’s Inc.” until late 2008 when they merged with the South Dakota Gold Company and then operated as “Dakota West Design” within the Ohio conglomerate.

The additional © symbol is just a copyright mark, protecting the design.

Thanks for the reply. After reading your response, I looked at the ring with a 15X loop and could see that it was in fact NOT a dollar sign but the conjoined Sb like you said. With the info you provided, I assume then that the ring was produced either prior to, or at some point in 2008.

You're welcome. The trademark was cancelled in 2002 after the owners failed to renew it, so a little before that.
