Hi All, I have a CZ7A, and want to do a air test in the house. Do i set the ground on the red 5 like for pre set huntting? What is the CZ7a get on a dime? I see some say the CZ3D get dimes at 11" or 12" and other CZs get a 1" to 2" less. I will be happy with a 9" dime.

It does not really matter in my experience, just try it a few different ways. My CZ7 and CZ7a with 10.5 did awesome in air test. The 8in coil did really well too but I always loved the 10.5 on the CZ's.

Hi Jimmy, Thanks for the reply, I have the 10.5" coil but it didn,t do good in my park, there are just much trash. I got a 8'' and it dose better. Now i have a 5" on the way. I just wanted to see in a air what each one will do. Some say the little 5" don,t lose much depth, so i will see. Thanks for the help Dean

Don't know how you're rig will do in an air test in your house, but it's most likely gonna do better outside if you want to see what the air test can show you.

Personally I only really use air tests to determine where the sweet spot is for pinpointing targets.

On my second CZ5 now, had a CZ7 also and have a CZ20/21 hybrid.

All of them showed great range in air testing, but using them in the dirt or water is a different game altogether.

Tell us how it comes out with all those coils!

Hi Lowbats, Thanks for the reply, I always though that if your detector did good in air, that it will do better in the ground. I may be wrong. I had the CZ7a out today at a park that i have hit for two years hard, and still found some 7'' nickles dimes & quarters. It didn,t pinpoint good on 1" to 2" coins, always said 0 depth, but coins were 2" to 2.5" deep. On the 7" coins it was right on. Might have been due to the top 2" were frozen. I think i am going to like this detector, i like that it hunts in 5 and 15 kih or what ever they are, i think that is why it hits hard on nickles.

Yeah a lot of coil/rig combos will give great air test results as far as depth goes, but once the coil hits the ground all the real world factors come into effect.

That's mineralization, target masking and co-location for a few. EMF, cross-talk and proximity to unwanted targets such as posts and all those other good things.

CZ series really has been great on all these typical issues with the exception of crosstalk. Nearby machines will affect it quite a bit, especially other CZ's!

One of the ways to help pinpoint those shallow targets is to raise the coil slightly and detune the pinpoint. Bring the coil very close to where the target indicates and release the pinpoint and press it again, it will make the area where the target indicates much smaller.

But hey, get one of those pinpointers, I suggest the Garret Propointer. You will really speed up locating and recovering those quick picks.
