No Really! We bought this little made in Japan toothpick holder or match stick. Not sure either one would fit in the little area. Its a dog and he has crapped out gold coins?? He on top of a purse or wallet. Strangest little thing. I have had it for about five years I look on the net every once in a while and can't come up with any info. If it were a goose I would think the goose that laid the golden egg. But dog and poop and gold coins, I have nothing. Help put this mystery to rest.

Wow. Can you show us :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch: :icon_scratch:om, any markings. That is a one of a kind find for sure! :laughing7:

How is it a toothpick holder or matchstick holder? I don't see a hollow. What's that little round thing shown on the front center? Cool littler tchotchke if nothing else.

Ok Its a bad picture but picture a change purse. In the photo the dog is sitting on the hindged portion of the purse thats opened. The portion behind the dog is the coin area and it is hollowed out as to hold something. The little round thing is a snap and the oposite side has the other side of a snap. the intire piece is ceramic? The bottom has a Made in Japan

So the hollowed out part closes over the dog figure? Wow. Never ran into something like that. Maybe take a sideways picture showing the hinge part and post it in the 'What is it' forum - I think this needs a wider audience!!

No if it were a real purse it would close. This is a porcelain/ceramic nick nack so nothing moves.

Ah, I've got it now. The snaps part confused me. Ceramic snaps. Candy dish probably (tho tacky), but could also be for dumping your loose change in. It's definitely very unusual and cool. Wish my dog could do that! :laughing7:

I can date it for you... Mark: Maruyama Toki Yamashiro Ryuhei, Seto, Aichi province. Date c. 1920-30s. Nice pre-war piece. Porcelain probably.
