Hopefully someone who really understands will wiegh in. From my experience and knowledge, all I can say is "it all depends". It depends on many factors including ground mineralization, EMI, your target's VDI etc. On my two-frequency machine, the lower frequency is usually more sensitive to smaller high VDI objects because of my prevaling ground conditions. However in many parts of the country, just the opposite holds true.

Thanks Dimedigger! That was some great info, I like the fact that, even as Fisher guys, they mention the quality of other products, that says a great deal about their respect of other manufactures! that makes me look at Fisher in a new way!

The deepest VLF machines use multiple frequencies, because low conductors like lead and gold send better return signals at higher frequencies than high conductors - like copper and silver, which transmit at lower frequencies. Mineralization and soil/sand conductivity also play important roles. Pulse Induction metal detectors are the deepest, but are "All Metal" detectors with no discrimination abilities.
