A township is divided into sections. Section markers are used for reference. Often a concrete pylon fence post sized.
Any neighboring properties touching yours been surveyed? A corner of one could allow you a way to measure. A sold home on occasion shows a survey record measured in feet from corner to corner or (marker to marker) of each line. Some have healed trees/ cut branches, where a survey line was cleared.
 

Stand over the marker with a simple silve compass....slowly turn around until the arrow on the dial reads 30''/29' in the south quadrant....that is the survey heading from that point to the next one....good luck....you can find these handy compasses almost anywhere, cost 12-15$,,,,gary
