I used to hunt at night quite a while back. This is going to sound funny, but I had a large cardboard box I would suppend around me almost to the ground. When I got a target I would use a small flash light I could hold in my mouth while I retrieved the target and no one around me could see the light. I had to do this because of the trouble with bums hitting on you. Later for night hunting in the water I had a small Max Light that worked well to look inside the scoop when I brought it up. I even tried the light stix but thought someone would shoot at me thinking I was an alien.

During the heat of the summer it is a blast to relic hunt at night! Theres just something about being out there in the field at night with the moon and stars glowing above while you swing your coil. I use a battery operated light that straps to my hat so i can reach up and turn it on when needed. 8) 8)

Hey, Johnny, the only thing about relic hunting at night in Kanasas is that you have to watch out for all of those pesky Kansas snipes.....Lordy, once you've been on a snipe hunt you'll never forget how ferocious they can be. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

And to answer your question i have hunted at night and used the mining light on my head to see. Its still a pain in the butt to see though.

Pepper,
I LOVE night beach hunting in the summer !
But i never go alone. Either Ralph or one of my kids , or a friend go with me and man the lights. Usually we bring a coleman lantern along with flashlights. have always meant to get a miner's type light, but still haven't ::)
I SURE can't wait for summer..........
I sooooooooo miss the beach! ( not to mention the weather! )

I like to hunt during the full moon, almost dont need a light then,BUT make sure your home by 10 oclock as thats when the monsters come out ! ;) :D I once had a large bull tracking me through a field while I was detectin, that was kinda spooky ! :o

I hunt at night a lot. Most of the time I use a small L.E.D. light that attaches to the bill of my hat that I got for fishing at night. I started out using my caving light but with the cord and hard hat, it was a real pain. The LED works great and I carry a handheld light in case I find something cool.( ;D or have to shoot something trying to get me and it ain't so much the animals that I worry about. ;D) Never had that happen but I don't go Md'n unarmed - day or night. The only thing is that I seem to run into more spider webs in the woods at night than during the day. No matter what, I love it, day or night.

Well, now that we know people MD at night, the next question would be, do you actually find something in darkness? ;D ;D ;D

I don't hunt at night. Don't want someone calling the police on me. Then I have to explain what I'm doing there. This is espically bad if I'm in someone's yard without permission. Don't need the trouble. :D

All the time---I use a PRINCENTON TEC 21 lums head lamp---3 settings---water proof down to 3 meters---takes 3 AAA batteries---150 burn time on lowest setting---I only turn it on when im digging---works great--good luck KINGPULLTAB

Thank you for your replies. I'm seriously thinking about hunting at night when it warms up a bit more. I just wasn't sure what kind of light I would need.

Ashleen, I love to be on the beach at night too. My boys and I use to get flashlights and follow the crabs around at Mexico Beach, FL.
If the weather holds up I might just go one day this week or the weekend.

Some friends took me on a Snipe hunt when I was about 16. ;D If you've never tried it you need to at least once in your life time.
Right guys? ;)

I have often hunt at night....especially when there is a full moon. Alot of the places that I hunt are really out in the sticks ,so I always have a miners light and also a small mag that velcros to my wrist. I think its really easy to see and hear when there is absolute silence around you and just love it.
Many time before dawn I have hit the road tear ups or construction areas before the traffic started moving...weekends are great for this when there isnt anyone else around.

Night hunting is the best. No one around, quiet. I do not recover targets visually, so detecting at night is the same as day for me. What I mean by that is that I do not look for the target in the hole. I simply grab fistfuls of dirt and wave them past the coil until I know the target is in my hand. Then I narrow down. I can do it with my eyes closed if I had to. I don't like to carry flashlights or anything that is going to grab attention.........but I do like light on my screen. I modified my ACE 250 for night hunting.....see pic below. My Explorer XS has a backlight, so it's good out the box for the night.

I beach hunt at night a lot. I use 2 light setups, a head lamp and I also have a visor light for my hat with 6 leds, got it at Bass Pro on sale for $6.99, worth every penny too.
