this was found in a field by a farmer. no one seems to know what it could possibly be. any help would be appreciated!! It is solid plastic, when held to a light you can see the outline of a square inside the block. it is
3 1/2 inches by 2 1/2 inches. it is 3/4 inches thick. it was in a pouch that looks like carhardt coat material with velco straps. there are numbers in the bottom : 1202K smaller numbers and 212976 larger numbers.
Thanks for helping!!

At a half a pound, it looks like it is a waterproof weight of some sort...the pouch looks like it is homemade...I thought of stamp also..but that wouldnt work because if it were the numbers would be transposed.....

What about some kind of depth finder weight? Evidently who ever used it enough that a pouch was made????How long is that belt?

the straps on the pouch would go around your leg or arm (guessing), it isn't long enough to go around your body like a belt.

Okay then.....heres my theory ...its a dog training collar......a dummy collar... to make the dog think he still has his electronic collar on.........I still think the plastic part was a weight ...and who ever made this homemade collar used it because it was the correct size ........

Next theory...homemade ankle weight exercise devise ..

Interesting Gypsy, Maybe it is not a dummy. Maybe it is some kind of waterproof sending unit, antenna, or transmitter for keeping track of lost dogs or animal. You said when you hold it to light there is something inside.

gypsy, i thank you sort of hit the nail on the head. along time ago we had a dog that would run after bikes. the vet said to stop this by putting a wood block on his collar and as he ran the block would bounce back hitting the dogs chest hurting him or to slow him down. just a thought :-\

you can see a dark square outline in the center of the block. however you can see it looking at only on one side of the block. this was found in the panhandle of texas, if that info may help. also i don't see why it would be a dummy if it has the numbers etched into the plastic.

Ok...Either there is lead inside this or not...but it weighs a half a pound....so its weighted.....the weight would be tied on a string to measure the depth of something...a well...or water......sewer pipe ...something.....

A real electronic dog collar did not have a transmitter that has a hole in the end....once a dog has had a real electronic collar on ...they learn quick...so the dog would have had a dummy collar placed on him....and then the trainer would have put the real collar on another dog to train....like with hunting or coon dogs......instead of wasting a true electronic collar on a trained dog....

So the owner made up dummy collars...using the weight because it was the same size as the transmittor , convincing the dog he had the electronic one on it.....

It is for sure a weight, I'm just not sure what it was used for for.... I think I saw something like it when I was in the military doing engineering, but I'm not 100% positive....
Good luck discovering its use, and make sure to let us know!

Interesting theories here, but I agree with tracie that it is no dummy. There is something inside that is protected from shock and waterproofed. Do hunters run dogs on this Texas property?

people do use dogs to hunt, especially during pheasant and quail season. I was wrong on the weight it weighs .28 pounds.
the red block also will only fit into the pouch with the end at the top. if that might help.

I don't know what it is. The hole in the top would be for attaching to a keychain or string/rope. I think the heavy red rubber is to protect something electrical inside, and to waterproof. I don't know what the pouch would be for but it appears that it didn't work. It came off of whatever it was attached to. It seems too flimsy to attach with velcro to a running dog.

It looks like it has strap marks on it. But the funny thing is. It wasn't suspended from the strap. It looks like it was strapped to or on something.
Because the strap marks run down it rather than up. Tested it for radioactivity? HH

I'm still inclined to think it might have been attached to a dog (or other animal)...possibly a homing or tracking device of some kind with some weatherproof circuitry inside and perhaps the pouch was used in lieu of just hanging it on a collar.

One of the numbers may correspond to a frequency or setting.

Just random thoughts

x-ray it. run it through an airport scanner. ;)
I cant figure out why they would make something electronic , that could never be taken out of the case. Its sealed....I cant find any disposable electronic dog collars....unless it was origianally on a weather balloon or something of that nature...does the K on the bottom indicate kilos?

JMO, looking at the #'s I would guess that it is some kind of radio receiver operating at 1292 K (kilohertz) and could either be attached to a dog collar or it's Martha Stewart's old ankle bracelet.
