hope i did the smart thing. Had met an elderly, 92, widower in scottsdale, az. Very overweight, maybe 300 pounds. Took forever to walk to living room . Said his grandfather had left him two gold mines in his will. He died in 1905. One was named Bully Bueno Mine, up in the Bradshaw mountains above Crown King. The other was a mine in Mexico just east of Fronteras, south of Agua Prieta. Gave me hand drawn maps to both. Left that weekend for crown king. Spent the night. Was told by old timer there “don’t even think of going into that canyon alone”. Well I too am a widower and am 84. Vietnam vet, too old or too stupid to be afraid of anything. Left in the morning. Found the canyon. Walked and walked, searching every ravine. Finally found it. Took out pick and moved enough dirt to crawl in on my back. Took a couple photos and grabbed some loose rocks. Left , drove back to Scottsdale. Showed him photos and rocks. He had never tried to find. Told me it was mine. Filed the correct claim papers with bureau of mines. Drove back up posted with the stake and took more photos and gps coordinates. . Now here is the rest of the story. He said that 2 mexicans had come up a year ago and offered him $1,000/mo to mine the mine in Mexico. He said no. 6 months later they returned this time offering $1,500/ mo. Again he said no. Gave me the map. Hopped in my truck and headed for Douglas. Got a room at the Douglas Hotel, ( owned by a retired attorney who was a child of 5 when his father put up pancho villa for a night). Left for Agua Prieta, got to this small town and thought “i don’t speak a word of spanish, what the hell am i doing?” Saw a small restaurant went in asked for owner told him i needed an employee for 5 hours who spoke english and spanish. I Said $200. He got his assistant cook to agree, away we went , drove about 20 miles and there was a road block , he said quickly give me $20. I did, he gave to the patrolman and away we went. Got to Esqueda, where I was told there was a Administrator of mines. Waited an hour while he was at lunch. Finally met. showed him my map. Said yes he knew it well. Said “better not go there, not safe”. Got in my truck and headed for it. Alot of dirt roads. Finally got to within a mile of the mine. Trucks coming at us from same. Guard station with two guards each with an rifle. My interpreter gave it his all said we just wanted to see it then leave, both guards were adamant “no way period”. Again a couple more trucks loaded with ore (I assume )came thru gate heading down the road to Esqueda. My interpreter was really scared at this point said “take me back to Agua Prieta. We are not safe here”. So we left. Dropped him off. Returned to Phoenix. Told owner. He told me to pursue if i wanted to. And then out of nowhere he passed away, leaving no will. I gave it up After talking to mexican attorney, who said “different rules down here mr Gary!” thanks for reading.
