Diving off McFadden Beach, Tx

Has anyone dove/snorkeled off McFadden Beach? I was interested in looking for fossils and points. Does it clear up enough in the winter to see and are there still sharks around during this time? I’m newly scuba certified and have never dove saltwater. I’ve found various fossils along the beach and was interested in finding the layer that they were washing out of.

that’s a good plan but you need more training and experience in saltwater. There are far more things to consider, such as having a qualified dive partner, planning for current and tide, wind, rip currents, self rescue, etc. Every year we lose a diver to the ocean conditions. Find an experienced instructor then go get those artefacts. Good hunting.

Beach entry dives are a lot different than open water training gives you.

There is a shipwreck somewhere off the beach rumors of Spanish silver and gold. Mcfadding has had some great points found on the beach also watch out for the nudist in summer
