Steve Thanks. Yes we made it a point! Last year me and the crew found this spot on the last day. This is a pic of a case from last spring on the same spotto all dug on day 3...

Needless to say... i knew exactly what my plan was ;)

You guys must have been sworn to secrecy about that spot going into that hunt. I, like so many others, headed to the big oak tree field thinking that with the grass being low it would be easy pickings. Didn't work out that way for me.

Yep. I was the only one that took the right turn out the driveway friday morning. I knew it was going to be elbow room only in the shade of that oak.

Guess it could be just a hinge for a small box.

I know little about guns, so can't help on the first question, but the above seems the most likely to me. I haven't seen one quite like it.

awesome and being a native to Richmond/Hanover Virginia. i commend you.lol

Thanks from VA!

I say old boy, you had some mighty fine hunting there, great displays.

The hinge is interesting - it is a simple hinge, not ornate hence it is for function only.

Crusader please elaborate on why you feel there is a broken off section on the wide end of the metal strap, a picture of what you are comparing it to could help the discussion.

Have any coins been found at the site and if so what dates, these could be helpful in identifying layers of course so can buttons and china ware..............63bkpkr

:icon_scratch: I can see the 'scar' in the picture, that's how I know it's broke. No idea on the shape of the missing piece, but probably just 'leaf' shaped to match the left & right ones.

definately has a break

Way to go James. You really tore it up on that small hill. Good to see you again.

Thanks Randy. Ya did good yourself

Hell yeah!!! Great finds, love the way you set up the bulletts for the pic.

Nice finds. I, too, was at site 2 on the first day. I noticed people went straight for the top of the hill. Unfortunately it was every man for himself. The field was small and I wasn't about to dig, or mingle in with every one else. I didn't feel it was right, even though I paid just the same. lol I found some stuff in that field, though. Also lost a few round balls things to my pouch being unzipped!
