Had a chance to go out today with the MD for the first time in almost 2 months. Hit one of my fathers property in a small town that sprang up in the '40's to house military personnel for an air force base that was a training facility during WWII. The house sits on about 2 acres but with all my dads....."stuff" there is less than an acre to hunt. Was at it for about 4 hours......nothing under the clothes line, nothing around the back porch, 2 clad dimes in the front yard and only 1 thing of any interest the whole time I was there. A 1941 license plate dug up at 4 inches under a sick elm tree. Rusty but in good shape. Here is a pic. I hope everyone else had a better day than I did and got to enjoy the weather. It was beautiful here in central Kansas.....great weather, dismal outing.....yeah I can handle that!!!...Lol

You got something ok.Today i got a 2011 penny and loads of pulltabs/old soda and beer cans and let me not forget a great rusty nail.So we all have those days.HH.

Sounds like there should be military stuff all around there, badges, pins, buttons, etc. if the town was built to house military personel ?

We all have not-so-great days.

I have days like you did more than I have good days not to mention I'm on a no silver streak rite now and not to happy about it. Lol

Thanks for all the positive reinforcement. Now all my days are dismal. Our new puppy chewed up the wire on my only coil over thanksgiving. Greenbacks are a little scarce in my house at the current time so I will have to wait a bit before I can get back in the field.

You weren't skunked!! I was detecting an old home site a few years ago and dug a California plate from 1964 and a few feet later an old Rochester carburetor. Not what we expect lots of times......LOL

Your weather was your good find! We are buried under foot and half of snow and it's -5 right now, sooo there won't be any digging!
Some one may want that plate for their collection!
Still a good find!

That's a cool find...clean it up using electrolysis. You can read the thing, so you have a lot of context there...it doesn't necessarily have to be pretty. Come to Iowa and detect now...I dare you lol...a 'high' of -15 forecast the next two days. I'm about to fill my basement with dirt and bury coins in it...

This post was originally posted in October, therefore excuse my suggestion of detecting here in Iowa...unless, it's still October where you are(it's certainly January here)...in that case, I'll be on my way.

lol I thought about that the other day while I was in basement checking breaker. I got my detector out and put sens at lowest setting and swung it around the house just to make the wife think I was crazy the other day. It worked she thinks I'm nuts now lol.

Back in sept I had my entire sewer replaced in my house. The contractors were needing to know which way my pipes ran under my basement floor so I pulled out my MD while they were gone and located it. The next day they came back. I told them what I had done and the guys looked at me as if I were crazy. A couple hours later the foreman said I was right on the money and decided I wasn't so crazy after all. Amazing what happens when you open your mind...lol!!

Jarl, I'm not going ANYWHERE today!! It's not -15 but it is 8 and the wind is blowing 30 mph. I don't know what the wind chill is, but DANG!!
